To be honest, MP3fiesta states this:

6. Copyright
All the software and hardware of MP3fiesta.com are the property of their Rightholders and protected by law. Music distributed by MP3fiesta.com comply with copyright license #IT-02/07 and neighboring rights license #IT-02-1/07 issued by UPO "AVTOR".

In accordance with the license conditions "Istok Company" Ltd pays license fees for all materials downloaded from our site that are subject to the International Copyright Law.

How is that to tell me it's illegal? Nobody on DS can confirm it is illegal either so maybe it's not.

I used 7digital.com for downloads and CDWOW.com for buying CDs.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Does anyone really believe that a company which charges such low prices is on the level? Do you think that if you wanted to set up a download service the record companies would authorise it if they only received a fraction of the price they get from iTunes or 7digital? Do you think they actually receive any money from mp3fiesta?

I use emusic (I'm grandfathered on a cheap rate from when they only offered dollar accounts). I also use audiolunchbox which will actually allow UK sign-ups even though they claim you need to have a US credit card. Both are good for back-catalogue independent releases. Both work on a subscription model so the albums work out very cheap - especially classical albums via audiolunchbox.

I never use the Brit download sites like 7digital. The difference between the price of the download and a hard copy on CD (from Amazon or Play) is too slim. I may as well have the free backup and booklet.

Yeah I agree. However, I thought sites like mp3fiesta could charge next to nothing because it's in russia. You can get a pint of beer in some countries for next to nothing, so why not mp3 tracks?

All my downloads come from iTunes, I pay for them all and wouldn't want illegal stuff, no matter if it was free or not.

I want my musical heroes to receive the money they are due, for the listening pleasure that I get from their music.

I use iTunes most of the time for downloads. The only time I might buy a CD is if there's a song or album I can't find on iTunes or if there's any upcoming albums I'm interested in (e.g. Britney Spears "Circus")

I use iTunes for single songs. I would buy albums on there if they were cheaper- I'd rather pay the extra pound and get a tangible copy of the CD, with the artwork etc than download it at that price.

Neither would I mate. I don't like ipods so itunes aint an option for me. Well its not that I dislike ipods, I just don't have a use for a walkman type device, and I have my PS3 for music in my lounge.

I will keep reading up on mp3fiesta. I want to be legal too, but it doesnt help when theres no legal guide.

It's simple really. Those Russian sites are just illegal downloading for scaredy cats. Basically you're paying a small fee to lessen your chances of getting into trouble.

Advocates of those sites will say otherwise but they value music so low that their opinion can be ignored.

Hope that helps .

Lessen my chances of getting into trouble? I don't see how I can get into trouble, nowhere is it made obvious it's illegal!

Russian law doesn't exist in the UK, so it's a very grey area, probably as grey as downloading music being legal (it's not illegal, just a civil matter, apparently).

You might as well download illegally than use the Russian MP3 sites.

Scratch my previous post - I try and search around some of the bigger and more trusted sites and online stores for the best deal. For example, just got the new Oasis Album on download for £3.97, but with one track not included, from Tesco Digital. I listened to the song and it was nothing worth paying an extra £4 for everywhere else.

Tesco have good prices, but alot of their stuff is in WMA format.

Does anyone else here use any of the russian mp3 sites? Do you know the legalities of them?

TBH, I think you've already had the answer. Buying from Russian sites is legal in Russia. It's probably illegal over here, but without a legal ruling, no-one knows for sure.

The law is not set in stone. New issues arise all the time and the courts decide how the law applies. Until a court decides, no-one can give you an answer and know 100% sure that it is correct.

I get mine from Ares and Limewire!

I've been using MP3 fiesta for awhile now. I did have an inkling that it was too good to be true but being eternally skint made me push it to the back of my mind!

I know, no excuses, shouldn't be stealing off my favourite artists, even though some of them see more money in a week than I'd see in a few years!! I know that doesn't make it right though.

To those of you doing Limewire and Blubster stop! They fill your computer full of crud and are completely illegal. My stepdaughter put Blubster in mine when I first got the net and I was stupidly naive. Never again. Served me right, I know.

Guess I'd better run open an account with I tunes!

I've found the official website for legal music online (advised by the BPI) which should clear up some confusion:

http://www.pro-music.org

If you go here it lists all the legal download stores in Europe, including 30+ UK sites. Surprise, surprise MP3fiesta isn't even listed under Russia .

I use iTunes and 7digital.

The latter is my preferred option, if they have the track I want as a 320mbps MP3.

^ Oops, I meant 320kbps

Good. Looks like thats been cleared up then. Not many tracks are 320kbps on mp3fiesta anyway.

7digital is the best mp3 site in my opinion. Pricy though.
