You shouldn't let them out at night though. They aren't as careful as they are in the day. More chance of the getting run over.

Yes, the stupid old woman next door is an all animal lover but not just that she actually encourages a fox into her garden and leaves food out for it every evening before dusk.

I've told her about the dangers of foxes but she continues to do it. So I have no option than to get my cats in early.

I've thought of another way if the flap/box idea doesn't work, what about affixing two small lengths of plastic either side of the controls so that they can hold a piece of card slipped in over the top, that way you can slip the card up if you need access?
