Olivers Twist
Radio12
07-10-2008
Watching Jamie Olivers new show on converting people to cook healthy meals in replacement for takeaway or fish and chips in Rotherham seems a bit of a joke doesnt it. Who the hell can afford some of the ingredients he cooks with in todays world. Asparagus, Steak, selective hams, how the hell is he going to justify such ingredients to a large family, they surely cant afford it. Another thing too he has just published a book on the subject which will clearly line his pockets. Nice little earner Jamie!

Olivers Twist is the name of a show he does for a USA channel called The Food Network is it not, I thought this new one was called Jamie's Ministry of Food ?

Have you looked at any of the recipes ?
http://www.jamiesministryoffood.com/...o/recipes.html

And you can get the recipes for free you do not have to buy the book if you dont want.Who works for free these days ? no one but at elast whilst he is earning a lot of money via his ads and books he is trying to put something back, which is more than some of the countries top earners or celebs do.

Takeaways are hardly cheap either though are they?

Some of his ingredients may well be extravagant - though I'm sure the basic concept of the recipes can be maintained whilst using cheaper alternatives to what he suggests.

Sorry dont watch american TV. I thought of the title because of the 'twist' because I see Oliver is the only person who will gain here. You are right on the title

So a network of learning shops opened up giving free advice is not a benefit to the communities as a whole ?

As I pointed out in the thread in the TV forum, JO will get fame & minor fortune from this project but you need to balance that out with the time & effort that he put into community and country wide projects.

Most other celeb chefs do it to make money and for their own ego.
Ramsay certainly does and you could even say that Delia sold out with her last effort to get back on the scene.
Whittingstall's early ventures into cost free cooking then to small holding started off nice and now he run's his own businesses promoting them in his series.

It would appear the centre houses other health professionals employed in the area and is kitted out by donations from the likes of Sainsburys etc

Cant see this working nationally sorry myself. My point was that Oliver is seems to be making a fast buck here, you would have at least though that the proceeds of his latest book could go to help nationalising these centres. Even the website is very commercially designed

Just how many so called celebrities do you think design and host their own websites?

to read the whole thread would be a good idea before you jump in a look a plonker Could you perhaps be getting confused between the word nationalisation against the word nationalising?

I did read the whole thread. So far it's your lack of research that has been questioned.

There are probably easier ways for him to make money. Anyway why shouldn't he make money? There's more offensive people that make money in far more selfish ways, that never give back anything.

His main problem is that he makes things look easy, after watching Jamie's Kitchen my estimation of the guy went up as I realised that he was really knowledgeable and had a huge work ethic. I applaud him for some of the things he's taken on, he's not taken the easy route.

Personally I have far more issue with the Kerry Katona's and Liz Hurley's of this world who make lots of money from doing sweet F A.

Why are you begrudging;

1) JO offering advice on food
2) JO doing charity work
3) JO getting richer
4) JO re-affirming his celebrity status

Do you have the same distane for Gordon Ramsey, et al?
