I have the Virgin 20MBit, M TV package and weekend free landline call package. The land line is never used but i think it would be good to have it for emergencies (just in case).

The big box of stuff did not have information on where the phone connects (did not come with one either). I imagine that Virgin just uses BT lines so i thought i just connect a landline phone to the BT socket in the house but my friend doesn't think so and it just uses the same cable connection as the TV/broadband.

If that's the case i would next to get another splitter and probably a filter and then connect the phone to the filter?

It can do. Or it comes via cable.

how does yours connect then, do you need to buy adaptors, to connect through the cable or do you need a special phone? a little more info please?

I have a little box on the wall. My friend has some kind of filter which connects to BT socket.

If you're in a cabled area, they use their own cables normally.

Virgin Phone will have it's own socket - look where it comes into your house and follow the cable - you will not need any filters - Virgin broadband is on the main cable not the telephone line

In the house there's a cable connection to every room, from the NTL days apparently each room was given a separate line. At the moment only the one downstairs is being used and split one going to the TV VBox and the other to the internet modem then to the wireless router.

There is also what to me looks like a standard phone box looks like a BT phone line socket next to the door on the wall. My understanding is that this is a BT line if we wished to get BT phone / any other internet provider. Or is this in fact the socket the Virgin also uses to get phone?

does the Virgin phone box look like the BT one? i had a closer look at the box and it does say BT on it. so should i look for another one like it but for Virgin?

It will look the same as the BT box but will have NTL on it - are you sure you have an NTL (Virgin) phone line - are you paying £11 a month for something you don't use?

I am paying £31 for 20Mbit internet, the Lowest TV package M (pretty much freeview and on demand), and phone line with free weekend landline calls. Its kinda a packaged deal since we cant get TV and Broadband only.

We (student house) wanted Broadband 20Mbit only which is £29pm but the with TV + Phone is £2 more so we thought what the heck. The on demand service is fantastic (you appreciate it when you don't have much of a channel selection)

I think orginally the deal is 2Mbit TV package L and phone for £31, but we wanted Broadband 20Mbit so they cut the TV package.

I cant find the NTL phone socket downstairs, will check in all the room, although that wouldn't work well for a telephone to be kept in the one room.

You should be able to get TV and broadband only. Though they may now offer only if you have a higher TV package - however calling up gets you services you want without ones you don't.

We only had TV and broadband only up until recently. The only reason we now have phone line is because it was given away as long as we stayed customers.

You mention 20Mbit broadband and TV package, this will be cable TV, therefore the phone line will be cables own network and not using the BT network - that is Virgin.NET ADSL service and phone service - where you'll still be paying BT for line rental.

The NTL/Virgin master socket will look like a BT one, just it will have NTL or Virgin Media on the front.

Cable broadband doesn't use the phone line, it uses the TV co-ax, hence the cable will be split when it enter the house (sometimes outside) one goes to the TV and the other goes to the broadband modem.

Hi well thanks but i think getting 20Mbit BB, TV and Phone for £31 is good right from getting 20Mbit BB alone for £29. Or do you think calling up will get me TV + 20Mbit BB for less?

Also i found the (what i think is) the Virgin telephone socket, it has no NTL markings on it but it has to be the Virgin box it was below the BT box (HOLD ON!) but at near floor level behind the shoe rack so i didn't see it :P the BT box is more prominent and in clear view.

Now i need to get a phone!
