I don't know anything about cats.

Was there no way for the owner to keep the cat away from the neighbours house and going into the house ?”

How do you keep a cat from going into gardens?? That's right, we have to like it or lump it.

This is the excuse given to me by cat lovers. It makes me angry still that I spent hours preparing what was a beautiful, beautiful flower garden only for some flea bitten rat of an animal tear up all the flowers in order to bury its droppings. I was then supposed to buy coke bottles filled with water, fake cats, lion dung(???) and make sound recordings of dogs just so keep these scourges of people's gardens out.

Cats! Show some humanity and worry about humanity!”

Why are humans entitled to some elevated status above other mammals?

Anyone is allowed to care about whatever animal they want - and not be tied in to this arrogant human superiority complex displayed by so many.

Just because YOU like humans so much, does not mean everyone else should. Why should a child dying carry more weight than a cat dying? Because we are biased? Because children can watch TV and wear clothes?

I can hear the violins now.

Are you sure you are not just jealous that cats are legally entitled to go anywhere they like while you can't?

Why should a cat care about your garden?

Well said Saigo - I completely agree.

If you own a dog then you are legally responsible for its actions.

If you own a cat then you are not.

Just another reason why cats are so cool!

What a stupid thing to write! Animals do die but sadly some have their lives cut short by mad people.

Your analogy is also flawed.

clearly, this one wasn`t killed legally, else there wouldn`t have been a court case.

Hi Bigfeet so far it is in The Sun And Daily Express nothing in The Daily Record. I was so relieved yesterday that he had got punished for this horrendous act, and now feel so down what im trying to find out if anybody knows what will happen now.

That's unforgivable! How could anyone be so cruel?!

This post would be hilarious if it was in a less serious thread.

It's really rich, to put it mildly, that someone whose posts spout nothing but bile should make these requests of another FM.

Forever Awkward, apologise if you want to but I wouldn't.

Do read your own posts if not listen to yourself before you post. You say that the guy's actions were no big deal and then try to make out that someone who was saying they were is in some way being inconsiderate of the cat or any animal. You are a despicable excuse for a human being.

Good (that's a laugh) Shepherd, you make me sick.

Does a toaster have blood running through its veins, does it feel pain, is it capable of any feeling whatsoever? No. Mind you, a toaster probably has more intelligence than someone I can think of as it is at least capable of making toast.

Aaaahhh, the myth that cats are responsible for the demise of wildlife. There have always been cats, and birds and other wildlife have thrived. The demise in birds and other small wildlife is a recent development and it is purely down to the use of pesticides and the destruction of natural habitat, including the rise in manicured gardens and the planting of non-indigenous plants that deter the insects that most birds feed on.

Most domestic cats do not kill wildlife - a) because they are well fed and b) because most of them wouldn't know how.

As for cats wandering onto other people's properties, sorry mate but them's the breaks. If you want a beautiful garden, move to Wisley. House gardens are not meant to be works of art.

Unfortunately humans are increasingly demonstrating by the day that many of them are not worth wasting two seconds of consideration on.

Ridiculous is a complimentary word to use to describe Good Shepherd's posts.

Hmmmmm ................. I wonder why? "They" were backing up each other's posts last night when I first started reading this thread.

How are cat owners more brazen? Please explain.

If my cat was killed by someone, other than accidentally, the only thing that would be my fault would be the retribution I would take on that "person".

That's despicable and disgusting. In fact I can't find the right word to describe it.

What about when kids or dogs dig or kick up a lawn, or snails, slugs and insects eat your plants? As I said, a house garden is not a show garden. Stupid gardening programmes of the last 10 years have led people to believe that they should own mini-Kews.

The police wouldn't have had to get involved if that had had happened to my family. The perpetrator would have "disappeared".

No, I'd much rather not, thank you. If you can't feed your children, don't have them and that goes for those in so called backwards and famine ridden countries who cling onto male superiority and rights over a woman, and a man's need to reproduce and simply have sex as an excuse to reproduce.

Why too harshly ? The cat is a living and intelligent animal. Why do you treat killing one in such a horrendous manner, so dismissively.

Quote:
“There is an element of (probably childless housebounds) posters who are reacting as if it was a child and not a cat”

That is really rather an offensive and presumptuous thing to say. Many families with children react with grief when a cat or other pet is killed.

Like, dislike, nuisance, whatever, you do not have the right to inflict needless cruelty on another living thing. Using a hedgehog as a football, for example, is a case of cruelty and you can be prosecuted for it. Bringing in the 'what about people' argument is a red herring, just because there are other wrongs in the world doesn't make killing a cat right.
And standing on the moral high ground here, my cats don't go out alone, and my children are more important to me than my cats. However my cats are regarded as family members.

As he plead guilty to the offence I'd guess that his solicitor has appealed because he feels the length of sentence is harsh for the crime and should be reduced or because of personal circumstances (ie to old to be in prison, health, his caring commitments to a sick or diabled dependant).

What happens now depends on what his grounds of appeal are and how long the appeal court takes to get to the case.

Solicitors always ask for interim liberation because their clients original sentence may be changed to one of non imprisonment.

The cat died. This was bad. The "killer" was punished. the only issue are those people thinking its a big deal.
