Last night after eating my dinner I put my plate on the coffee table as I didn't want to miss what I was watching on TV. Next thing I know my dog, Jaffa, was sniffing around my leftovers - not unusual as he's a labrador. Considering I'd had Jacket Potato with cottage cheese, salad and beetroot I didn't think he'd touch it. I know it's disgusting and I should have stopped him, but I couldn't believe it when he finished the lot. (Intensive setting on the dishwasher today ) He does have strange tastes, as when he was a thiefing pup he also managed to get his paws on chilli con carne and chicken jalfrezi with naan bread, bananas, apples, plums, peaches (including stones), various socks and a brand new mobile phone - one bite and he gave up on the battery. The thiefing has pretty much stopped now but he still pesters me if I'm eating any kind of fruit.

Does anyone else have pets with unusual tastes?

Not sure if it's that unusual but my Border Collie will eat any fruit or veg, even lemons. His favourite dinner (apart from Sunday roast) is indian, and he also has a real penchant for egg fried rice.

My rottweiler is a strawberry thief - I wondered why none of my plants had any berries on them, then I caught him plucking them off and eating them!

my dog is a rescued lurcher, and some of the stuff he has eaten makes me wonder if he spent a time starving on the streets. my way of making a baked potato is to pop it in the micro for 5 -10 mins to get it started so its only in the oven half an hour instead of two. well, i'd just micro'd two big taters for me and my partner, left em on the worktop, and was waiting for the oven to heat up. five minutes later, dinner was in the dog. these potatoes were half-raw

perhaps worse than this is that when i just got the dog, i had to keep the bathroom door closed at night, or he'd go in and eat the soap

Glad my dog isn't the only one with a taste for spicy foods. I was waiting to be told off on that score.
Love the rottie strawberry thief. Perhaps if I plant fruit bushes in the garden my dog will leave me to eat mine in peace.

My Impossible Princess eats plaster and the foil stuff they wrap electrics up in. Suffice to say,she is banned from the upstairs until the workmen finish doing their stuff.

My pup loves eating cat poo from the litter tray. He thinks he's being very sneaky grabbing it when no-one's looking, but the cat litter stuck to his nose is a bit of a give-away. Horrible dog!

My dog also likes the taste of soap - or more accurately, soapy water, he would drink out of the bath if I'd allow him, and always tries to lick my legs after a bath or shower.

We all know that you shouldn't give dogs much chocolate, and nothing with caffeine, I've also heard that white sliced bread is a no-no......
Yet my mother's last dog would be given loads of chocolate, she would make it cups of sweet coffee and pour it into his bowl for him (at least two a day) and would mix white bread in with his food.
Can't have been too bad for him - he lived to a ripe old age of 19

i once got two large gammon steaks out the freezer, toddled off to work, came home but thought i was going bonkers as i could have swore i had taken them out of the freezer and yes you guessed it our boxer dog had eaten both the steaks and the plastic bag they were in and they were totally raw!!! he also loves prawn crackers, lets them dissolve on his tongue, digestive biscuits and cheese!!!

My angel kitty would eat anything in her latter years. She adored baked beans, victoria sponge cake, chips, sandwiches, custard cream & bourbon biscuits ... basically if it was edible, it would do her

She also loved mars bar fondant. It was the very last thing she ate. She wouldn't eat anything during those last 24 hours. We tried everything ... all of her favourites and you could tell she really wanted to eat, she just couldn't face it. The mars bar fondant was the last attempt and she lapped it up with gusto

New baby hasn't developed any unusual tastes of yet but the bigger the bug, the better

My cat likes chocolate (particularly Galaxy), Cheddar cheese and a little bit of cooled home made vegetable soup. But not all at the same time.

My dog would eat anything given half the chance. He's been known to stand on the coffee table and lick the top of an open can of diet coke.

My cat will lick tomato sauce (although he does do a funny little mouth action before he does - cant describe it tho!) and the flavouring from Pringles. Cant think of anything else at the mo but I'm sure there's a few more

My girly cat ate a fried mushroom last week.

And they both have a tendency to nibble on plastic bags too. I have to be careful where I leave bags now.

My darling dog will eat anything bar dog food! He really doesn't mind what it is, (popcorn is his favourite at the moment) and will help himself to whatever is on your plate unless you stop him! Costs a fortune in fresh meat for him...

My grandmothers late dog was hysterical though, as soon as he heard the ice cream van coming he'd go crazy and you'd leave him out, for him to guard the van, no children would be allowed to get served until he’d had his cornet complete with flake. We'd have to hold it for him and he'd lap it all up, ice cream covering his nose. Never touch the cornet though!

Dogs are omnivores and scavengers so it isn't really surprising that they'll try almost anything.

Cats, on the other hand, do surprise me with what they eat; one of mine adores melon and mango

My cat likes pringles

My dogs will eat leftovers of our food; our setter prefers it to normal dog food I think. We sometimes put a drop of milk in her bowl after her dinner, she loves it!

I have a dog who eats flies. Hes fantastic at catching them, chases them round and eventually gets lucky, snaps his jaws and theyre gone.
He also eats banana, and my hamster food and rabbit food. He will also (as much as I try and stop him) eat rabbit poo if he can get near the litter tray.

My cat used to go mad for raw eggs. He wouldn't want one that had been mixed up, he wanted it with the yolk intact. He would lick the yolk till it broke, then lapped up the rest of the egg.
Cats eh!
