My dog went missing yesterday. He is electronically tagged and has my telephone number on his collar but I'm really worried. The weather was really bad last night as well.

He is 4 years old and I got him from a shelter in June. He was really badly treated before he went to the shelter and I'm terrified he fell into the wrong hands.

I have searched the area, reported it to the police and contacted the local dogs home and dog warden. Does anybody have any other advise on what I can do.

p.s I am currently laminating posters of him

It sounds like you are doing everything right .... keep calling the animal centres, vets, police etc ..

The posters are a brilliant idea. Also maybe print off a load of flyers and distribute them to all the houses in your surrounding area.

The chances are he has just wandered off and lost his sense of direction.
Was it possible for him to have got free from the garden, or wherever he was, of his own accord??

Good luck ~ I truly hope you find him safe and sound soon!

Thanks. I don't know he managed to get out as its as electric gate. He's not used to traffic (I take him out to the country to walk) and I know he'll be totally freaked out by the traffic. anyho thanks. I hope by Monday I will have some good news.

Sorry about your dog.

There are some sites you can use that might help. Also remember to call the people the chip is with, they should send out a note that he is lost in case anyone finds him and the chip is scanned.

These might help but I have never used them myself, only the cat specfic ones

Sorry to hear about your dog going missing.

I am not sure if posters are a good idea as you can be fined for littering by some councils, although not all councils do this.

thanks for the responses. I'm going to ask the local shops etc if I can put them up. I know our council can be pretty pissy about posters.

So sorry to hear about your dog, I really hope you find him.

Unfortunately even given the nature of a poster, it is still seen as fly posting, the reason being that it can come unattached and litter the streets - and as your telephone number would be attached it's not really a good idea. Just try circulate the information as best you can. xx

I am sorry to hear about your dog going missing.

My sister rescued a dog who was an escape artist to say the least. Every day so rang the obvious, dog warden, cat and dog sheleters, police etc but nothing matched his discription. Finally after 4 days she actually went around the cat and dog shelters and low and behold there was Jack and had been there for 3 days prior.

If at all possible I would advise you to go and check these places out yourself.

I really do hope that you find your dog soon, good luck x

I just had a thought. When my friend's cats go missing she gets an animal dowser in to find them.

I wonder if it works on dogs?

I hope you find him soon. What a worry! A neighbour of mine put slips of paper in everyone's door around a few streets asking for us to check sheds, garages etc. and put a telephone number on it. It worked and afterwards she put another little note through the same doors to let people know the outcome.

I would put up posters wherever you are allowed, as it could be someone took him home with them thinking he was a stray. The tag may have come astray, it does happen sometimes.

Wishing you good luck with the search.

No news yet. I've been searching for the last 3 days and there isn 't a person in my neighbourhood who hasn't got my mobile no. I've posters up in the local shops/shopping centre/butcher/church. Apparently there has been a lot of dogs stolen in the area lately which is really worrying.

I'm just hoping and praying he'll turn up so as the poor creature has had such a hard life so far.

I wish you the best of luck with your search.
& I'm so sorry

Just keep on putting those leaflets up, 2, 3, 5 miles away, it will still make all the difference.

I'm not sure if you have but our local paper will print notices such as these in the community news section as well...

I hope you have him home with you very very soon.

Agree with that.
I had a dog go missing a few years ago, on a camping trip in Wales. Three weeks later I got a phone call from a rambler who had found him. A bit mucky, and needed a good feed, but otherwise OK.

If he has contact details on him, then definitely don't give up hope.

Your doing all you can, keep it up! When I was young our lab went missing and after 3 days we found him in some deep bushes in the park near where he was walked. He was cold, wet and STARVING, but still wagged his tail and jumped when we found him!

(Which incidently was after we got a phone call from a trucker who had seen our poster, was on a long drive and stopped to wee when he heard an animal crying. He didnt look to see what it was or try to get it, just called us 'incase'. I was grateful we found our dog, but it still baffles me as to why the trucker didnt tryto help a crying animal?!)
