Recording from BTV to a DVD recorder

Can it be done? I can't get mine to work. It used to work ok with my old Thomson PVR.

Plug from SCART on the BTV box to SCART on the DVD Recorder and start recording and playing... works fine.

Would I be right in assuming that the on demand stuff is copyright protected so doesn't record out to a DVD recorder?
