Corrie at 50
What special hour long episode would you like to see for Corrie's 50th Birthday?
I'd love to see the return of Hilda Ogden and Eddie Yeats for a one-off episode. |

Who would have made the best double hander episode, any characters, past or present, dead or alive.
I'd like to have seen a massive showdown between Dirty Den and Grant Mitchell. OR Angie Watts and Peggy Mitchell fighting over who is Queen of the Vic. |

What else could the Corrie 50 episode be about?

...or the death of a long standing character like Emily...with lots of flashbacks from the past 50 years.

I think it'd be the perfect time to kill of Ken Barlow in the 50th Anniversary episode - it'd be almost poetic.

Character returns would be too predictable. Hilda Ogden, for example, is better left in the past when she was at her peak- thats not to say there aren't a few others that could work, but there would have to be a good reason other than for viewer nostalgia.
The live episode for the 40th was a good idea because it acknowledged the anniversary but the series didn't get bogged down in celebratory backslapping. Still, the 50th is a bigger anniversary the 40th. I definitely think there should at least be some kind of retrospective documentary on ITV, uniting production crew and cast members past and present. I like the idea of re-creating the first episode with the current cast, although it's worth keeping in mind that only about half the original characters were introduced in episode 1. Some well-remembered characters like Jack Walker, Minnie Caldwell and Martha Longhurst weren't seen until episode 2. Please, no killing off Ken or Emily though. The anniversary should be a happy event. David |

Maybe in The Twilight Zone they'd consider killing off Ken Barlow, but DEFINATELY not in Weatherfield. |

What about using computer technology to bring together characters of old and new together, interacting with each other as a one off.

I have also seen it done with concert footage, with Elvis Presley featuring along with artists like Sugababes.

I'd love to see Hilda again but don't know if Jean would be up for it. She's been very vocal about not liking the show's direction in recent times.

I think it should involve Ken leaving, whether he dies or not. It would be a good idea to mark Bill Roache's 50 years on the Street, leaving in style rather than just keeping on working till he drops (he's in his 70s!). I'm not sure what the story could be.

Keep in mind that Betty Driver is 88 and still working. I can see Ken Barlow in Corrie for at least another ten years. Certainly whatever storyline is used for the 50th should centre around Ken, but hopefully involve the whole street. David |
