Why is it called X-Factor?
It makes it sound as if they are searching for someone with indefinable star quality. But it's hardly undefinable is it? The judges will spend the coming weeks doing nothing BUT define it.
Stage prescence, ability to work the camera, a voice that can deliver the full range of middle of the road pop and 'classic' songs. Hardly 'Je ne sais croix' Perhaps they should call it 'Fairly Obvious Factor' |

I remember when Simon Cowell was judging on Pop Idol, each week he kept saying "he was looking for someone with that X Factor, that special something" and I think that's where the name evolved from once Pop Idol had finished and they were looking for a new talent show to take its place.

Quite an obvious title! whats strange about it! Out of a group of good singers, who has something extra special?

In my oppinion, having The X Factor is, even if you can't sing, you have something about you that makes people want to know more about you, and see you perform over and over again.
Take Chico for example. Not...the best singer in the world, but he got pretty far! Someone who has the x factor just owns the stage no matter what their singing ability is! |

X is something different that no-one can really put in to words or describe.

Or as it said in the Guardian preview today - having the X Factor has changed from meaning 'je ne sais quoi' to meaning 'je sais que votre pere est mort."

Burst into tears, lay a sob story, claim that it's the ONLY thing that has ever mattered in your life, get Cheryl turning on the tears & hey presto, you're through to boot camp!
