Bryan Watson and Carmen Vincelj
Bryan and Carmen will be performing a samba on tonight's result show, and I'm very excited about this
![]() I'm sure most people on here know who they are, but for those who may not, Bryan is a 39 year old South African Latin American dancer who used to partner Karen Hardy until 1999. With Karen he won several titles and they were twice placed 2nd in the world professional latin championship. He left Karen to form a partnership with Carmen Vincelj, a (now 36 year old) German dancer of Croatian descent, and together they were undefeated world latin champions from 1999 until their retirement in 2007, winning an incredible 9 times on the trot. They socialize with some of our pros (especially Matthew) and Carmen was at the first show this year, so I hope that now they're retired the BBC will get them more involved with Strictly. One demo per series is nowhere near enough! Definitely, I really can't wait to see this! I just had a quick glance at the Samba clip and it looks amazing.
I think it's great the show can attract the very best dancers in the world to perform |

Am so excited to see this tonight. Love their dancing and it's really good to see the top dancers doing demos - first Joanna Leunis and Michael Malitowski last year, now Bryan and Carmen.

They are fantastic.
It would be great to have Bryan and Carmen as two of our professionals .

I can't see them doing another demo in the future as they have publicly said that after the end of this year they will not perform any more shows together.

Becca, how exactly does Carmen train to do her spins faster than the speed of light?
It can't be healthy for the internal organs. Moving at that speed they could be torn from their moorings. |

I'm just wondering is this a way of testing the water of seeing how the reaction of the audience to them- and maybe adding them to the SCD professionals

Too busy with teaching commitments in Asia to take part in the show in such a way. They are so rarely in London, it's near on impossible to get hold on them.
You wanna see fast spins - check out Joanna Leunis's Cha Cha from 2004 Superstars! |

He will be teaching a whole new generation of dancers to pull faces then ... and eventually get lambasted for it on here

Can't see that happening, and to be honest, I don't think I'd like to see it. Never my favourite couple, as dancers or as people, and I was glad to see them retire from competitions. Brian is a fabulous dancer, but the expressions he pulls - yuk! And Carmen has the most horrendous dress sense, and watched really carefully, her footwork is not always so wonderful!
I wasn't that impressed with Carmen in that Samba clip, however .Oh, and can anyone tell me what the hell Karen is dressed as in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7p3H3-RGfk |

I cannot wait til this evening, it's great that SCD are getting on different dancers to show what they can do, although knowing last years comments on here, B&C'll get slated because they're not the type of professionals that most people are used to! |

If Donnie and Gaynor came out and danced, the general public would still find some reason to slate them.

The problem is just that the competitive style of dancing is tailored towards a more specialised audience, and so I don't believe it to be something the untrained eye can truly appreciate or understand. It doesn't work for the general public, I don't think it ever has or ever will. Definitely that is the reason that they don't tend to broadcast comps on television, whereas with something light and fluffy like Strictly, there's a part of it somewhere that almost anybody can buy into.

Well, I suppose there's the odd few cultured people on here who'll appreciate the dancing of professionals such as Bryan and Carmen

Double post but I find it rude how no one stood up for B&C yet do for people like Jill! Obviously it's cos no one would know who they are, but there should still be some kind of respect shown!

![]() And aren't the audience normally told when to stand? |

I'm suprised the judges didn't stand up either. It seemed to fall on deaf ears.
And yeh, I'm sure they prompt people when to stand up (except those in the balconies!) |

I dont know why but I didn't find B&C as exciting on the results show as I have done watching them in the past. I just didnt feel the spark that I usually do when watching a good samba and thought it was slightly a bit of a let down, although it could have been the audience atmosphere that made it loose the buzz.
They are amazing dancers but I dont know why I didnt feel it tonight, thats just my opinion, maybe I need to re-watch it x |
