Is Simon trying to make Eoghan Quigg the next David Archuleta?
Those of you who watched American Idol earlier this year will know what I mean. I already saw similarities between the two young boys when Eoghan first walked into the audition room, but for Simon to give him the song 'Imagine' as well!? Don't be so damn obvious about it!

Definitely, I was saying he was going for the David Archuleta factor as soon as he sang the first word. Smart, though.

I've thought that since the beginning, shame his voice is nowhere near as good as Archie's

I think he's trying to go for that angle. But Eoghan has nothing on David Archuleta.

I knew as soon as Simon mentioned a big song that it was Imagine. He's a bit predictable these days! FWIW I though Eoghan's version was much better than his American counterpart (although neither were incredible).

Yep, as soon as he started singing Imagine I knew why Simon had given him that song. It worked well. I was reading reviews of all the performances in the NOTW earlier and the writer said this:-
"Little Eoghan Quigg from a little village in little Ireland did something no-one in the past 37 years has ever managed to do. He sang John Lennon’s Imagine without butchering it. Year after year, TV talent show after TV talent show, someone tries it and someone murders it. After pulling that off, viewers can’t help but be a little excited at what he’s capable of." I guess the writer didn't watch American Idol earlier in the year then

I thought David A was just OK. That's also what I think of Eoghan. Decent enough singers but nothing to get too excited about.

I can't seem to edit my first post? But for anyone who doesn't know who I mean, it's this guy,
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NIuMcL4Kz44 He was in American Idol this year, and ended up coming second. He's very similar to Eoghan in terms of age and personailty (y'know, the cute and innocent factor) |

Don't get me wrong, Eoghan's one of my favourites and I thought his version of 'Imagine' was good. But if Simon's trying to set him up as the UK's version of David A there will only ever be one loser...apart from having an infinitely stronger and more soulful voice Archie has more charisma in his little finger than Eoghan will ever have.
I hope Simon lets the lad develop his own style rather than try to set him up as a watered-down version of the original as I think he has great potential |

Exactly! There are similarities between the two, but each of them is unique and I have a feeling Simon's not going to even try and help Eoghan develop into his own style but turn him into a David A copy hoping that the UK audience will love him as much as the US love David. Which is such a waste of Eoghan's talent, because, only one person can do David A, and that was David A.

I was actually writing him off before he even sang, but I have to admit that it was a decent vocal. He's still nothing special and certainly not as good as David A. Perhaps the song choices will be moulded on him, but I doubt Simon intends for him to finish as runner-up.

As soon as the music started I thought...'I know what Simon's trying to do here.' The key word being trying. He saw a successful formula in Archie and is trying to spin it as a whole new thing with Eoghan, not banking on the fact that those of us who watched American Idol can see right through it. I thought Eoghan's performance was good, but nowhere near as passionate as David Archuleta's. If I hadn't watched Idol this year I probably would have loved it, but it had a bit of a taint to it for me.

There's one major difference between the two. David can sing.

Couldn't take to David A last year. I find Eoghan for more endearing. I thought he did really well this week. Much better than I thought he'd be.
Interesting - it leaves me want to see more of him. I'm interested to see if he develops some more power in his voice. I guess that's what David A has over him. |

I just hope Simon doesn't make him sing Danny Boy or You Raise me Up...Archies dad use to choose some cutesy and good ol' american apple pie type numbers and Simon would criticise him.
It'll be interesting to see where Simon goes with Eoghan - he's 16 but looks 12, so song lyrics will have to be carefully chosen |

He's virtually unrecognisable from the cute boy who turned up at the auditions 18 months ago. Why couldn't he let him keep his own unique style? |

If Austin attempted a rock number I'd guess it would be more Alistair Cook than David Cook....
I don't think Eoghan will go far - he is way toooo young and should have been left a year or two |

Perhaps this will show Simon's lack of total interest in the show .... by letting him sing Billie Jean sung in the style that David Cook did (who was ab-so-lutely awesome)

I didn't like David A during american idol but he has a much stronger voice compared to Eoghan.

His version of Imagine is far superior to Eoghan's version though it has the very same arrangement. David A has a much more powerful voice. |
