In both series of Pop Idol, was it true the judges sat through all auditions?

IfI recall correctly, there were 10,000 and 20,000 who applied in PI 1 and 2.

Definitely not true. The producers in Pop Idol judges in the early stages, just like XF.

200 made it through to bootcamp- all of them seen the judges. I think about 250-300 probably seen the judges.

Well there was about 180 at boot camp.
I predict 500-2000.

Yes, the producers send through good singers and some really bad ones(for our 'entertainment' in the audition shows.)

Oh and just to add, not all 182,000 will have been seen by the producers. 182,000 is probably the amount that applied for the show, only a fraction of them will have been given a call back and an audition for the producers.

A colleagues daughter met Dermot as he was travelling back from filming the judges houses abroad. He told her that the judges saw 10% of the overall applicants. Some how I doubt it....

I don't think that's correct, because otherwise they are potentially missing out on lots of talent, or even entertainment.

i believe they see about 30 acts a day, so if you have three months of auditions about 90 days, that would make approximately 2,700.

Who, then, are the huge crowds of people filmed queueing outside each venue, shouting "I've got the X Factor, etc. etc.? (Maybe CGI )

So you think judges only saw about 100 bad acts? i'm sure with six weeks of x and xtra factor we saw more than that (even if we saw some for three seconds).

I would think there were more bad ones than good ones, otherwise why would the judges feel so restless. I know it's tv and some of it's made for entertainment, but i still think there's an ounce of genuinity when simon gets annoyed

It is, plenty of people have applied who haven't received a callback or an audition.

I don't think the judges will see that many, I don't think they go through 30 auditions in a day. Auditions take about 10 mins to half an hour each and they don't usually start them until after midday and finish in the evening, including breaks inbetween.

They might be losing out on some talent there.
Unless when they audition the have to provide a CD of themselves singing.

I drove past Hampden one day, and my God it wasn't CGI. It was really rather impressive the number of people that seemed to have turned out.

As for the judges, I'd guess that they see about 500, based on the numbers we would usually see on the show and Xtra Factor plus that 180 were at bootcamp. Because then they need the crap ones plus the endless streams of average ones to fill those clips between "featured" auditions and also those that just don't provide the hoped for entertainment in the auditions room.

A lot will be contestants, but remember they're on about 182,000 acts applying, not people, so there would be a lot more people than acts because of groups. And don't forget friends and family go too, who I assume have to pretend they are auditioning when doing crowd shots for "I've got the X Factor" etc. We don't just see the acts in the crowd.

It was a 150 that made it through to boot camp but thats people not acts. Quite a few were groups so the numbers are no where near as big as people think. So i think the 100 is a reasonable estimate.

The judges dont do that many days of auditions. They did 4 in london, 1 in glasgow, i think 2 in wales and 2 in birmingham and either 2 or 3 in manchester
