Artists/bands you have ignored because of the debut single
I have quite a few - If I don't like the debut single of an artist I tend to write them off! Particularly if the song is annoying.
Off the top of my head: Delta Goodrem - Born to Try - never liked that song but thought the rest of the album was cracking The Ting Tings - not even sure what the song was called - but I like some of their other songs Rihanna - Pon De Replay - still think it's a rubbish song but I'm a massive Rihanna fan these days Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl - used to get switched off as soon as the opening beats came on ![]() The Black Eyed Peas - Where is the Love? - didn't really dislike the song, but it got overplayed beyond being tedious Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This and Bleeding Love - AMLT was such a cliche and Bleeding Love wasn't the greatest, but I like her other songs. Anyone else got any? |

Funnily enough as I was opening this thread I was thinking TING TINGs! The Ting Tings. However, I heard their recent single being played on Radio 2 the other day and thought, "well, that isn't so bad..." ![]() Rihanna. I absolutely detested 'Pon De Replay' and was sadly still doing the odd mobile disco when that was released. I put it in the same category as that awful 'Gasolina' track. However, I have disliked everything she has released since as well. 50 Cent. I hated everything about 'In da club' and just thought "oh great, more mundane rap." I hate the timbre of his vocals though - no real expression, combined with the equally slow tempo of tracks like 'In da club' just left me feeling "when will this end?" I used to play about a minute of this whenever I got asked for it at a mobile, and would very conveniently get rid of it or press the stop button mid-track, and say, "oh, looks like the CD is on the blink, sorry folks." Westlife. I thought "here we go yet again" after hearing 'Flying without wings.' I've never been a fan of boyband ballads anyway, but I didn't feel remotely inspired by 'Flying without wings' one bit. Busted. Definitely marketed towards the teeny bop market and I was far too old for that to have left an impression on me. However, I heard the single "What I go to school for" and just thought it was a bit of a rip-off of the recent American pop-rock stuff that was pervading the charts at the time. Damage. I never saw the appeal with this lot. I had actually forgotten about the first single before starting this post. I can definitely remember hearing 'Love II Love' but I always thought 'Forever' was the first single. Either way, didn't leave an impression on me at all. I had actually forgotten all about 'Love II Love,' which definitely proves my point. I can't say anything else about them really - just didn't leave an impression. Destiny's Child. I didn't click with 'No, no, no' at all. However, by the time of the second album I was a firm fan. I actually don't think 'No, no, no' is a bad song, but at the time I didn't think it was worth writing home about.

Coldplay - Yellow
Something about Chris Martin makes me want to repeatedly punch his face until he chokes on his own teeth and blood, and releasing this song didn't help that. I don't like Coldplay, can you tell? Paddy

Bizarrely I actually liked 'Yellow' but then hated everything Coldplay released subsequently.
