My take on the performances - Feel free to respond with yours!
Girlband ***- Good vocals, but nothing particularly interesting, needed some solo in there.
Austin ***- Started out a little shaky but good by the end. I think he'll get much better. Daniel *- Dull. His voice just isn't strong enough. Alexandra *****- Brilliant. Managed to sing an uptempo song and still showcase her stunning vocals. JLS ****- Opening solo was out of tune, but after that it turned into a strong performance. Scott *- Appalling. You could barely hear him, not only was it a dreadful song choice, but his vocals clearly aren't strong enough to have gotten this far. Possibly the worst performance in X-Factor history. Rachel ***- Bad song to showcase her vocals, but luckily she has a strong enough voice that it wasn't a total disaster. Diana **** - Started off shaky but ended strong. I'm not sure her voice will be diverse enough for her to last though. Bad Lashes ** - Boring song, shaky solos, but over all I would say an ok performance. Eoghan ***** - Completely surprised me and turned in one of the strongest performances of the night, despite not having a huge amount of vocal power. Ruth **** - Boring song, but she managed to make it sexy. Good performance. Laura ***** - Showcased her incredible vocal range and power. Overdid it at the end and got a little shouty, but undoubtedly the strongest vocal of the night. |

Girlband **- Bit boring if you ask me. I can't even remember there performance. But there performance in the bottom 2 was a load better!
Austin ***- I hated him before, but Im liking him after that performance. I think maybe next time he should try something more upbeat and move around a bit more because it gets boring watching someone just stand there after a while. Daniel *- Boring, My mum liked him though. Alexandra *****- Her voice is probally the best in the competition the only thing is she is so similar to Leona that I think it's time for someone new in the charts. But I do love her. JLS ***-There pretty good. I like them but don't really know what to think of that performance. It was a bit boring, pretty good vocals in some areas. Scott **- I love him, I really do and I completely blame Simon for the bad song choice. He looked like he was having fun and thats what makes the show less boring. Watching them standing there as if they want to be elsewhere is boring so even though he wasn't sure about the song himself I loved the way he still tried his best! Rachel **- Her voice is far to screechy for my ears. Ok so shes got a good voice..but what else? Shes cooky and thats something I really hate! Diana ***** - I love her I really do think she could win it. Shes so original and I think thats good because who needs another leon or leona..or whatever. Like the judges said shes the one to beat! Bad Lashes *** - They wasn't bad. I think Emily should've done all the lead vocals because Sophie [is that her name?] really didn't have such strong vocals. But I do think they were better than girlband. Eoghan **** - I hated him at his first audition but he really is growing on me. I really loved his performance and I can't wait to see more from him. he doesn't have the strongest voice and isn't exactly very original but I think he'll go far. Ruth **** - Loved it. really good. Very sexy lol. Shes not one of my favs but I think a lot of people will like her. Laura **** - Theres something I can't get about her but she has the most amazing voice & her performance was pure amazing! |

Girl Band: **
Nothing really special but the vocals were okay. Austin: *** He's done a lot better before. I thought it was quite dull. Daniel: * Pub singer. Alexandra: **** Her vocals were brilliant but I just find it hard to warm to her. JLS: *** Just average. I like them but I thought the performance was a little 'flat'. Scott: ** Mainly down to the song. No one would have done well with it. Rachel: ** I really can't stand her voice, and she irritated me all night. Diana: ***** I love her so much. It was shaky at the start but then she hit the first chorus and it was just stunning. Bad Lashes: ** I was looking forward to them but felt really disappointed. They've done better. Ruth: **** Beautiful vocal and she looked fantastic! Eoghan: **** Better than I expected. I really love his voice and felt he gave a solid performance. Laura: ***** This girl is special. Despite the first note her performance was just amazing. |

Girlband - ** - Bad song choice as it was very cheesy. The outfits were hideous as well. Vocals were okay though
Austin - ** - Good vocals but he bored me senseless. Daniel - * - The epitome of karaoke night on a Friday round your local pub. Nothing exciting about it at all. Alexandra - **** - Fantastic vocals but not the right song for her. She should have gone for something more contemporary. JLS - *** - They are great vocally but that performance was just dull. Bog standard song for a group like them and not exciting in the least. They need to go for more modern songs. Scott - * - I find him a little boring as I don't look forward to his performances. His voice isn't that good either. Staying at Pontins would have suited him better. Rachel - ** - Awful song choice and she sang it with a weird nasaly quality which I haven't heard before. She did well with the crowd though and give it her all so full marks for that bit. Diana - ***** - Thought she wouldn't do well when she started but she really seized control of the song and put her own interpretation on it. My fav performance of the night after Laura's. Bad Lashes - * - Another bad song choice and out of tune! They're not brilliant singers to be honest and they took on a really big power ballad. Bad move , and one which didn't pay off. Eoghan - **** - The vocals were good and he's the best of the boys. The song choice suited him too but he needs to go for something that's a bit more his age. I don't want to be reminded of David Archuleta through him as I found him incredibly annoying during Idol. Ruth - **** - Perfect song for her and she performed it very well. I thought the vocals were good too but that doesn't seem to be a shared opinion. I do think she'll be out in a few weeks though. Laura - ***** - Another perfect song choice and an amazing vocal and performance. She got a bit shouty near the end but it was passionate and on-key shouting as opposed to just screaming so that's okay. they saved the best till last. |

Girlband ** - Pretty bad! Should have gone. Can only hope they get better.
Austin * - I can't stand him. Sorry. Everything about him winds me up - his I'm-a-tinsy-man-but-I'm-going-to-make-myself-look-big-with-my-muscles body, his crying, his hair, his eyes, eeuugghh. Say no more. Daniel *** - What a nice bloke! Genuine, normal, unpretentious. Sadly not good enough but I hope something good happens for him off the back of this show. Alexandra *** - She's got a great voice and she looked fantastic last night, but there's something about her that I just can't warm to. Think she'll do really well though. JLS ** - Not my cup of tea at all. Nothing original about them - they are 20 years too late. Best of the groups though. Scott ** - I feel really sorry for him. He's so likeable and sweet but he's just not good enough. Sorry Scott! Rachel ** - She's just so annoying. She stands out but in a bad way. Shame, cos if she had a personality more like Laura's she'd go much further. People will get sick of her histrionics and she'll go earlier than she should. Diana ***** - She's a one-off and her quirkiness will keep her in for a long time. Some people won't get her but most will love her. Bad Lashes ** - Better than Girlband but it was inevitable that they'd go early. Eoghan ** - I can't see him getting too far. He's OK, nothing special. Ruth **** - I like her. She's got a good voice and she's very sexy so she'll get the male vote. Laura ****** - I LOVE her voice! She's so cute - a dark-haired Cameron Diaz - and so likeable. She was my favourite from the auditions and she's just got better and better. |

As someone who has watched all previous X Factors, including all the audition shows) I purposely didn’t watch any this year up until the live show last Saturday. This was really so that for once I could make judgements on exactly what I saw on the night, without any of the sob stories and good/bad performances everyone gave prior to this. So, having not seen or heard about any of the acts before Saturday ( I don’t get a newspaper and have steered clear of DS), this is my take on them all in no particular order.
Rachel – Seemed like a poor song choice for what looks like an amazing voice if only I could have heard a bit more of it. Diana – Nice refreshing change. Quirky, cute and very unexpected. Ruth - Smooth and sensual but I wonder whether there is a big enough potential market for this kind of artist Daniel – Pub or club singer. Good but definitely nothing outstanding. Find it hard to believe he actually made top 3 in the category, but not having watched the auditions I'll assume there wasn't much competition. Don’t think he’ll last long. Laura – Very good, but would like to see her sing something a bit less obvious and develop her own style JLS – Not bad. Bit of a wobbly start but got better. Can see the young girls going for this lot in a big way. There is definitely room for a decent British RnB group. Alexandra – OK but have seen and heard it all before. Might be better suited as the lead singer in a girl band Bad Lashes – Harmonies were quite awful. Could do worse than ask Alexandra to join them when she gets eliminated to strengthen up their vocals! Apart from that, their image (was this manufactured for them or were they like this in the auditions?) didn’t seem to fit at all with the song choice they were given Girlband – Cheesy and predictable. Along with Daniel it wouldn’t surprise me if they were out soon unless they come up with something a bit special. Scott – Seemed like a nice guy but awful song choice. At least Simon held his hands up and hopefully I’ll be able to make a better judgement after next week’s show. Austin – Seemed very nervous but not a bad voice. His votes could be split with Scott. Eoghan – Nice but fairly weak vocal. Not sure if this was nerves, not having seen him before, but he’ll get the cute and cuddly vote for a few weeks at least. |

I don't think it was the worst performance from Scott in X-Factor history - in fact, IMO, that dubious honour would go to Eoghan. He simply shouldn't be in this competition. He's a little boy and sings worse than a lot of child vocalists I've known. |

GIRLBAND – Cowell was right, it was like “Girls Aloud” rejects singing at karaoke. No chance.
AUSTIN – A weak vocal, terrible jeans and flat and boring performance DANIEL – A horror start, improved a bit but so old fashioned and pointless ALEX – Very strong vocal, still don’t think she has “The X Factor” JLS – A dull song choice, but they did a good job. SCOTT – Total mess, but in the end it saved him. He’d have gone if he didn’t get this attention. RACHEL – Worked the crowd, great presence and a decent vocal on a poor song selection DIANA – Totally enchanting. Shaky start, great end. A brilliant contestant for XF. Excellent song choice. BAD LASHES – Some really poor solo performances, they need to look at themselves before blaming Louis. EOGHAN – Wanted to hate it, but it was actually a solid vocal performance, still nothing special. RUTH – Showed that her voice might not be strong enough for the competition. Sexy, though! LAURA – Really good vocal, good song choice although she tended to go a bit OTT. Terrible dress. |

GIRLBAND – Completely unremarkable. They should rename themselves Cannon Fodder
AUSTIN – Vocal mogodon, I lost the will to live halfway though. DANIEL – Almost as dull as Austin but redeemed a little by the end. Pure cabaret ALEX – Interesting how many people said they felt nothing for her. Neither did I despite a good vocal. JLS – Nowhere near as good as 'No Air' but the best so far - they need something cutting edge if they are to survive. SCOTT – Song was dire, but I thought his vocals were weak anyway. RACHEL – I didn't actually hate the song and after a poor start got quite into it. This is the only performance I will bother to watch again. DIANA – Jury is still out on whether I love her voice or find it irritating. Still I hate U2 songs being covered and didn't reach for the mute button so that's something. BAD LASHES – Worse than girlband, not surprised they went. EOGHAN – I hate John Lennon songs being covered too and this time I did reach for the mute button after the first two lines so can't really comment. RUTH – Great tits, but I think the singing in Spanish gimmick will get old fast. Otherwise vocally not outstanding. LAURA – Best of the night in terms of song choice and consistent performance but she doesn't do it for me the way Rachel does. I wouldn't blame her if she killed the stylist and picked her own frock next week |

Girlband - Definately stronger vocals than girls aloud
but forgetable.*** Austin - I hid behind my pillow when he was singing. * Daniel - Reminded me of my uncle singing at a christmas party - dreadful. * Alexandra - Good vocals but overall forgettable , bland compared to other girls. *** JLS - At start i thought it was all over but the little guy saved them, best band. **** Scott - Like the guy, his vocals seem okay, song was horrific. ** Rachel - LOVE her personality, hate her style/song choice on saturday. *** Diana - My favourite of the night, absolutely captivating and stunning in every way. ***** Bad Lashes - Look better than girlband but awful singers. ** Eoghan - Surprisingly good voice, still creeps me out big time though. **** Ruth - Not great, not terrible, just a loud belter, nothing unique or special. *** Laura - Absolutely dreadful image, cant denie she has a great voice, but i do not like it personaly. **** |

Girlband - Forgettable. I just can't endear to them. Sound like a bunch of girls singing random songs on a night out.
*** Austin - Nothing special. I and others on here didn't understand what the judges were talking about. * Daniel - Bad sound let him down. * Alexandra - Nothing. Very boring. Nasal voice and lots of self promoting gimicks in her voice. *** JLS - They were great to watch. **** Scott - Bad sound let him down. ** Rachel - Bad Sound let her down. *** Diana - One of the best performances ever on the X Factor. ***** Bad Lashes - Nothing special. Rightfully voted off. ** Eoghan - Forgettable but a very good performance. **** Ruth - One of the best performances of the night with Laura and Diana. *** Laura - Fantastic. One of the best performances of the night with Ruth and Diana. |

GIRLBAND – Did ok I thought, better than they are given credit for, but will go out early due to voting demographics
AUSTIN – Incredibly nasal, dull, really dislike the tone of his voice DANIEL – Really not good enough to be in the final, nice guy that he seems to be ALEX – Not as good as her audition, but strong voice, maybe lacks the spark to win but she's one of the best of the lot JLS – Atrocious beginning, I think they're massively overrated by many, don't think they're anything special at all SCOTT – Dreadful song, dreadful performance, not good enough to be there RACHEL – Looked dreadful, grating personality, bad song choice DIANA – Best by a country mile. Great song choice, memorable, captivating performance. BAD LASHES – Woeful. Not as good as their direct competition in Girlband. EOGHAN – Simpering, annoying, very weak voice RUTH – Not overly impressed LAURA – Dreadful styling, the vocal gymnastics at the end annoyed me but she has a very good voice Top 3 for me were Diana, Laura and Alexandra, not impressed by any of the others. |

Girlband ***
Quite enjoyed their performance. Austin ** Struggling to understand what they are raving about. Daniel * Pub singer. Alexandra ****Great, looking forward to hearing what else she has to offer. JLS * Who? Must have been out of the room. Scott * How on earth did he get through? Rachel ** Really bad song choice and made her voice seem monotone which we know it most certainly isn't. Diana ***** Outstanding. Different. Blew me a way. Big U2 fan though and I love that song anyway. Eoghan *I'm sorry, but I find his voice incredibly boring and dull. Ruth *** Good but boring - nothing different. Bad Lashes -* Cringeably bad. Who the heck was shouting and drowning out the others? The right ones to go. Laura **** She's very good, but the style is just not my cup of tea. |

Girlband ***
To go on first is very brave, and they really seemed to enjoy themselves! Fun, cheesey performance to start XF5 off. I knew they'd be in the Bottom Two though because of the whole "singing first curse".Austin ** Umm. He just bores me. I used to think he was good looking but not really anymore. I'm actually surprised he was put on so early, thought he'd be saved till near the end so the audience remembers him more. Fairly okay vocals though. Daniel * Pub singer. (I'm with Rugby Rose on this one! ![]() I'm sure he's nice and everything, but.. that's it. Alexandra ***** So underrated. What I loved was how she was clever enough to begin slow and then go into upbeat. To showcase both her strong points. To me, she was the most professional with the whole choreography thing and knowing what to do. I hope people don't just neglect her due to Laura. JLS ** Okay, the only reason I'm giving them two stars is because they're all very cute and it's nice to see a male group who all seem pretty down to earth. Predictable song choice, nothing very memorable but I have faith in them! Especially for MJ week. Scott * I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.. it really seemed like Simon was trying to stitch him up though! But why would he? ... I felt SO sorry for him when Dermot just kept him on stage asking him questions and he started crying. He must have been so humiliated/disappointed. Still.. he's pretty bland and forgettable, so I can't see him really ever making a mark. Rachel ** What the hell was Dannii thinking? The whole thing was a complete mess. I hope she comes bouncing back next week.. I'm waiting for the night she's given a power ballad or something and blows everyone out of the water. Diana ***** My favourite of the night! Like so many others it seems! It was to me the most memorable performance and is the only one I've listened to since. It gave me goosebumps. I don't understand the negativity towards it on this forum.. I think people are just shocked people prefer her to someone like Daniel. Eoghan *** Simon clearly trying the David Archuleta approach. He did this with Leona in Series 3 too.. chose some of the most memorable female performance songs from American Idol. Summertime (Fantasia), Over the Rainbow (Katherine McPhee), All by Myself (LaToya London) all made an appearance.. even the winning song was Kelly Clarkson's! But, ah yes.. Eoghan.. or Egg as I call him His vocals were pretty good!Ruth **** The song was boring as hell. She really is lucky that her performance was near the end of the night because had it been early on I have a feeling she would have been eliminated. So far, it's Dannii, not Louis, who is making the mistakes with the songs. Bad Lashes -* Nothing really special about them. The song was boring, their image looked really forced (like Louis was desperate to get them out of the hairdressing look), and I forgot about them once they'd finished. Personally, I don't see how they could have redeemed themselves either.. Girl Band's just aren't that good. Hopefully Girlband can pull something out of the hat. Laura ***** She was really, really good! What a way to finish the show! But still, I don't want her to win.. kind of a "heard it all before thing" with Laura. I imagine she'll be sticking round for a long time.. her, Alexander and Diana were really the only ones to take control of the stage. |

Girl Band: **
So far I'm not liking this band. Voices are ok but they need to get some personality out there. Girl bands should be exciting and fun, as well as being able to sing. IMO. Austin: * Sorry Austin fans. I just can't warm to him. Yes he can sing and he can usually do so with conviction but jeezo, desperate much? I've been totally put off by him. Want him to go asap. Daniel: ** Okay. Saturday's performance was quite bad BUT i'm not going to write him off just yet. Mainly because he is a lovely guy and seems really genuine and just enjoying himself. Good for him. I wont be annoyed at all if he stays for a week or two longer - so long as a stonger contestant isn't jeopardised. Alexandra: **** Great vocals, even with an up-tempo song and some dance moves in there two. Slick and professional. I like this girl. She's a fighter with a cracking voice. JLS: *** If Mr Walsh doesn't constantly give them old fashioned songs then they will do well. Harmonies are solid and they have really good chemistry. Not that fussed about them but yeah, they're not too shabby at all. Scott: That song. What else can I say. I refuse to rate him until next week. I still think Simon did that on purpose. Rachel: *** Has a good voice and energy but she has to watch out for over-compensating, imo. I actually think it was a decent song choice and Rachel started it nicely. Then she started forcing bits and it was clear she didn't trust in Dannii's choice. Needs to get her act together. Diana: ***** (... **** )My favourite. Easily. Great performance - absolutely beautiful in my opinion. Genius song choice. Hope she doesn't get caught out by silly themed weeks. Bad Lashes: ** I was looking forward to them but felt really disappointed. Louis buggered them with that song choice, silly decision. You just had to look at their audition songs to see the kind of style they were going for... and it wasn't "It must have been love". Ruth: *** Loving the Spanish senorita. She looked incredible, I have to say. Wasn't the best performance for me but I like her too much to give her less that 3*. Eoghan: ** He was okay. Felt like Simon was trying to do a David Archuletta with him (from American Idol this year) so was un-impressed with song choice. He's got the cute factor. That's it. Laura: ***** Well she was certainly giving that song all she had wasn't she. Fab performance for me and loved the scatting at the end. So long as she keeps control of her range, I'm going to like her more and more, I think. |

Girlband : Rubbish song choice, nothing interesting about their rendition of it.
Austin : Didn't do much wrong with his performance of a decent song, but didn't wow me either. Daniel : He looked too happy to be there and was a bit average. Alexandra: Great vocals on a rubbish song from 30 years ago. I get more from her than I ever got from Leona, and I like the fact that she's not so wet in her interviews or comments either. JLS: Better than average after a shaky start, and these guys are very likeable. Not sure about the knee bend movements though Scott : Crapola song, average performance of it. Think Simon did this on purpose with his planned apology and mistake speech to engender a bit of sympathy for Scott and give the show some light and shade. Rachel: Song choice suffered because it's Danni's choice of music and reminded me of some of the guff she's released. I like Rachel tho, she enjoyed herself and continues to be a character. Diana: I found Diana average although I like the fact that she did something different. There's a Cilla Black tone to the way she sings different words, but on second listen some of the squeaks added to the ends of words are a bit too forced cranberries and sinead o'connor for my liking. Eoghan: Good song, suited his voice which is a bit thin but he phrased well and didn't hit any bum notes. Ruth: Listened to the mp3 and it wasn't as good as watching her. Not outstanding vocally, but great boobally. Bad Lashes: There was a really bad harmony part from one of the girls which was repeated all the way through. Not sure they deserved to go, but they wouldn't have won either so no problem that they did. The dark haired one danced like a space invader. Laura: Poor styling, and self indulgent vocal. For some reason she reminds me of a witch. |

Girlband - * - Like 4 girls doing karaoke.
Austin - ** Not bad, not great. Daniel - * - Like a guy performing in a pub on a Friday night in the club style. Alexandra - **** Very strong vocals and looks great. JLS - ** - OK but they seem like aanother bland boyband IMO Scott - * - Dreadful, like he was still at Pontins. I dont know what it was but it just seemed naff. Rachel - *** - Good voice but the song was all wrong for her. Diana - **.5 - Interesting choice, not sure I warmed to her vocals. Its good she does something different but the twinge at the end of words reminded me of The Cranberries or Sinead O Connor. Bad Lashes - * They murdered a Roxette classic They were out of tune and either screechy or flat. Terrible.Eoghan - ***.5 - Much better than I thought he would be. Ruth **** - Boring song choice but she sang it well and my God she is sexy Loved her boobies ![]() Laura - **** - She has an excellent voice. |

Alexandra and Diana are tied for best act this week IMO
Alexandra put in a mostly flawless performance, and her tone was lovely. She didnt over-sing it, and didnt lose her tone toward the end, so well dont to her. Diana has the greatest 'bad' voice I have ever heard on xfactor. She does so much that is technically wrong, but with her voice/quirks sounds right. The 'judges' sound ridiculous going on about how she isn't mainstream though, because her sound is actually very mainstream and marketable, and several artists like her are in the pipeline for the next couple of years.... Predictable choices of song for both of them, but smart choices as well. JLS and Laura both did reasonably well, but not perfect. JLS had a semi-difficult song, and what was good was great. What was not so good was sort of dire, but overall, they are the strongest group. Laura wrecked the beginning of fallin'. She also oversang. She could probably do much better than this. The song was not too big for her, but she made it too big by attempting things her voice just couldn't manage.Similar voice to Rachel's but far superior. She does have a few really cool sounding spots in her voice that make it more interesting than most of the other belt-types this year, and she takes risks. When she gets it wrong, it isnt that bad(like this week), and when she gets it right, she is really good.I really think she will have at least one standout performance this season, possibly more. Ruth and Eoghan both surprised and impressed me. Ruth isnt the strongest singer, but her tone is beautiful . She knows how to emote the right way and how to make the most of her voice. She also has a lot of stage presence and she has a very marketable image and style of singing. Eoghan knows his limits and works well within them. He does have an excellent if not strong tone and he does not come across as puppet-like the way whats-his-name who sang imagine on American Idol did.He just seems like a nice kid who loves to sing and does it well. I didnt expect to enjoy his performance, but I did enjoy it. Austin did well, but nothing unexpected. He could be one of the stronger competitors if they let him have the right songs. Rachel's many weaknesses predictably showed this week. She has poor ability with timing. She has a one-dimensional and monotonous overall tone and sound that only sounds good in the very limmited range of songs that allow for sloppy pseudo-emoting .She has the least potential for improvement, because her voice is strong, but bland with little versatility, lacking finesse,pseudo-emotive, and so common a sound that...well, so common, for instance, that there were 3 stronger singers who sound similar this season alone....NEXT I thought the rest of the acts sounded like reasonably good karaoke singers. Not terrible, just not what I'd want to hear at a performance or on the radio. |
