Kitten

Just got a new kitten. Seems it was dumped out at a friends house and abandoned. We had a cat who died a year ago and so we took it. Going on a weeks holiday in two weeks time. What do we do with it? Have been told it cant be left in kennels until it's vaccinated. It is a handful. Always on the go yet we can't let it go out in case it goes on the road. Help! We aren't sure of it's age maybe about 3 months at most.

If you're quick you may be able to get it vaccinated in time, do you not know some one who would look after it or pop round a few times a day while you're away?

I've just realised we're in advice best post in the pet forum

The vaccinations are two weeks apart and (usually) need a third week before vets would consider the animal completely inoculated.

If you have the first jab tomorrow, you may be OK for kennels.

An alternative, if you can't get a friend/relative to pop in three/four times a day would be a pet sitter who would stay in your house and look after kitty - IF you can get one at such short notice. Not the cheapest solution for one kitty.

If you can't get the kennels to take your kitten and nobody can take it in, do you have a neighbour who could go in a couple of times a day to feed/water the kitten? I did that once when I went away (although I was only away for the day, not overnight).

Neighbours?

If you have some you get on with, could you ask them? Thats what we've always done.

We have more trouble getting someone to look in on the snakes than the cats (not surprisingly) but that only comes in to play if we're away for more than a week.

Thanx everyone for your help. I didn't want to bother my friends or neighbours and have managed to find a nearby kennels which will keep her in isolation for £6 a day. Rather expensive but I can go away with peace of mind and then decide if I'm going to keep her or not. She is a handful but of course she's very lovable...:confused. Nothing in life is straightforward, that I'm sure of!
