Alright, I am a new member to Digitalspy and would very much appreciate any views and advice from anyone regarding the above query. I have £600 to spend on a new TV and have been looking around for a short while, I have found reviews and other material on the TOSHIBA 42XV505DB LCD HD TV and I'm able to get it for £590. Can anyone comment on my choice or suggest any alternatives? Cheers.

I'm currently looking at the very same model. Not to be confused with the slight variant of the xv555db on amazon!

I was looking at the same model recently. I went to a store and asked them to show me a SD picture on it (as most of the stuff ill be watching for a while will still be SD) and to be honest, the picture was quite naff. So I didnt buy it, holding out till after christmas.

Might be worth going back and asking for the remote so you can try the different picture settings, I've read it has a more than acceptable SD picture.

More than acceptable. I have the 37" version and granted before I changed the picture settings, the analogue picture and digital pictures via Freeview looked awful. It's now fanstastic and the HD pictures look crisp, clear and very colourful. For £590 you can't go wrong. I paid about £520 for mine a few months back via Amazon.
