Up scaling
Up scaling.
How can you upscale SD pictures to HD, I've heard about using an up scaling DVD recorder but how do you do this? Can you watch an up scale picture without having to record it. is it the case that you connect your existing equipment through the DVD and it upscale it for you??? Any help would be most useful. NG |

Hope I've understood the question.
All HD ready TVs have upscalers in them. You only have to connect the SD source and it is automatically done for you but don't expect an upscaled SD image to be as good as an originally derived HD picture. |

If you watch SD programmes on an HD TV then it MUST be upscaled whether this is done in the TV or externally such as in an upscaling DV player/recorder otherwise it would occupy a smaller rectangle within the TV screen.
You can play an SD signal through an HD recorder and have that upscale though the DVD recorder has to be switched on. However it may not be any improvement on your TV's upscaling and may well be worse - basically the better your TV the less likely external scaling is to be an improvement and the more likely it is to be worse. Low quality TVs may well benefit from upscaling as long as an expensive upscaler is used. Probably you are best off forgetting this - if you are getting a DVD recorder it probably supports upscaling anyway so it won't do any harm but don't by one especially for upscaling. Also be aware that an upscaled image is NOT HD. |
