Its all real music FFS Just because YOU dont like it doesnt make it any less real than anything you like. People singing and others playing instruments. That is music, wether you like it or not.

Oh dear. Lucky them I guess. I'm sure quite a few other people wouldn't mind "drawing influence" from each member of Girls Aloud either.

Speaking of rivalry...

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a1...rls-aloud.html

It's hard for fans not to get involved when members are saying stuff. Obviously she was asked the question and only stating facts, but it's a bit rich to be knocking on about writing your own stuff when - if you strip out the sampled aspects of Girls - you're left with little content that's your own work on your latest single, and also longevity is a bit of a laugh considering they've changed their line-up twice in eight years. Girls Aloud are going pretty well on that front entering their seventh year with all five original members.

Sugababes have certainly sold shit loads more records, though, and sales = success.

Never forget how Ms Cole kicked off at All Saints for 'copying' Girls Aloud's sound. The same All Saints who had been around 6 years before Girs Aloud were 'put together'.

Then when she said Charlotte Church copied the sound also and the best part ever, how Christina Aguilera and Destiny's Child ''ripped us off a bit like'

Yeah whatever love. Go and sell as much as the above before you earn the right to pass judgement on them. Deluded mare.

I notice she has nothing but praise for the Spice Girls though. The very band Girls Aloud 'ripped off a bit like'.

Girls Aloud just got lucky. Tons of better girl bands never got the break they did and flopped. Look at Cleopatra. They really could sing and did have talent. They just didn't get the exposer because their faces didn't fit and they didn't have exposer from a reality to launch them.

Girls Aloud haven't had to work for their success. It's all been handed to them for free.

Absolutely Girls Aloud are lucky to get the break they did. If it weren't for Popstars, they'd all be working at Tesco or something and whatnot.

But as The X Factor and Pop Idol 2 have proved, beyond the first guaranteed hit you're on your own. You can't honestly Girls Aloud are still around because of Popstars? Where's Michelle McManus or Steve Wotsisface, or Hear'Say?

People seem to look down on pop acts, especially ones from reality talent shows, but they have to work their arses off to maintain what they have. If it were just a case of turning up, singing a song and knocking off home to catch EastEnders to get success, wouldn't we all be doing it?

Cole is her married name. Tweedy is her maiden name.

But I so agree about Cleopatra!!

Oh my god I loved them. I still have their albums. The 2nd one was only released in the USA but I bought it on amazin a few years back.

I still love this. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lb-Ff4piZIg

But they did have quite a bit of success though. 3 top ten singles in 1998. It was only their comeback in 2000 that bombed but pop was having a bit of a backlash at this point.

I think there was talk of them doing a comeback album but I'm not sure if their time might have passed but then Robyn is the perfect example that comebacks after years away still work.

Infact! all girl band fans should buy this

I'm more of a fan of how the song sounds like rather then lyrics too.

Cleopatra in my opinion were probably the best vocalists of all the late 90's girl bands maybe even better than Destiny's Child. Cleo really can sing. I think their management just didn't know how to market them. They ended up doing some rubbish tv show which I believe is one of the reasons their comeback didn't work as well. They should have just stuck to the music side of things.

It's interesting to note that at 14 they did write all their own stuff. Which I think again proves how their management had no idea what to do with them.

They could have been the best british girl band going back in the day. They had huge interest from America so I'm not sure how it all went wrong. I think Cleo getting pregnant at 16 really messed things up too.

Before I start, I must say... I am a massive GA fan. BUT that doesn't mean I have a biased opinion over them. Here's why...

They have been going good and strong for 7 years.
Unlike a certain rival girl 3-piece, they haven't changed their lineup since they've been around.
They've had 21 singles, 20 of which have reached the top ten.
They've released five albums, two of which have been UK number ones, two live albums, two compilation albums and one greatest hits album.
Out of them has come 4 number one singles, 4 number two singles and 15 top ten's.
They have had five tours and have been a supporting act for Coldplay in 2009 on their Viva la Vida Tour.
They have an amassed fortune of £25 million by May 2009.
Guinness World Records lists them as 'Most Sucessful Reality TV Group' as well as holding the record for 'Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group' in the 2008 edition.
They have sold over £10 million records worldwide.
They have made a cameo apperance on the first St Trinians Movie, as well as singing the soundtrack and Kimberley and Nicola have made an apperance on Brittannia High.
They have hosted their own show 'The Girls Aloud Party'.
They have published an autobiography called 'Dreams that Glitter - Our Story'.
In 2007 they signed a £1.2 million deal to promote Sunsilk. In the same year they also sealed a contract with Samsung.
In 2008 they promoted Kit Kat Senses, which also sponsored their Tangled Up Tour later that year.
Some of their many celeb fans include Coldplay, Jonas Brothers, Gabriella Cilmi, U2 frontman Bono, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Arctic Monkeys.
Some awards they've amassed over the years include
Best Single: Sound of the Underground, No Good Advice, The Show, Wake Me Up, Biology, Something Kinda Ooooh, Call the Shots, The Promise
Best Newcomer, Band of the Year (2004), Favourite UK Album (What Will The Neighbours Say?), Band of the Year (2005), Best Female Singer (Cheryl Cole), Best Band (2007), Most Fanciable Female (Cheryl Cole), Best British Group (2008) and Band of the Year (2009)

Fair enough if Girls Aloud aren't to your taste, but they have made (or rather Xenomania have made) some classic pop songs, for example Call The Shots, Untouchable, Singapore, Biology, Close To Love, Memory Of You etc.

I don't really care who wrote or produced the songs, or how Girls Aloud were put together, or how technically competent they are as singers, or whether they're nice people or not. I just judge them on the basis of whether I like the songs.

And TBH I wouldn't care if they'd only sold 10 albums, I'd still like them just as much. And I think its a bit silly to suggest sales are an indicator of quality, seeing as people like Joe McElderry, Flo Rida, Cascada, The X Factor Finalists and Peter Kay all had number one singles last year.

Exactly.
And OP, there are many reasons why Girls Aloud are held in high regard, and don't demean the demands of being in in a pop band...just because GA don't write or produce most of their music (they have written some of what I consider their best songs, e.g. 'Hear Me Out' and 'I Say a Prayer for You') doesn't mean they don't work their absolute socks off. MOST bands don't write their own songs.

Also unlike some other girl bands, they don't bitch about eachother, in fact I don't think they ever have, and they are genuinely the best of friends.
