Hello,

I'm looking for a Digital Cordless phone (or a normal cabled phone failing that) with a 1571 Flashing Indicator so that I have a visual indicator when there are messages on the service.

Does anyone know of a model that works with the VirginMedia service (I live in ex Telewest area).

Thanks.

Hi there,

We live in an ex-telewest area and we have a BT DUET telephone that has a flashing red light feature that is supposed to work when you have a new voicemail message, however this has never worked and has constantly flashed.

I don't think it was a fault with the phone, moreover the fact that to get calls to go to voicemail we had to use the standard call divert codes (*61*, *67*). When using these codes the dial tone changes to a broken one very similar to when you have a voicemail message.

On a BT line the dial tone doesn't change when you divert your phone or have voicemail activated and only goes "stuttered" when you have a message hence the red light starts to flash and goes off after you have listened to the message as the dial tone goes back to a continuous one.

This is only my understanding of what happened when we had Telewest/Virgin voicemail. We have since upgraded our cordless phones to a set with it's own answering system and don't use the VM Voicemail.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response. We already have a digital cordless phone with answerphone - we're happy to keep that but need to move the base station to a position where there is no socket (shich is why I considered the 1571 option). I looked at the Maplin extenders for sending the phone line via power sockets but they don't seem to carry the Caller Display.... I guess we're just too needy!

It's always a faff when you have to move the base station for whatever reason and there is no socket in sight.

If you have a bit of DIY savvy about you then there are plenty of kits available at the Major DIY stores that enable you to wire in your own extension socket running from the master in the house enabling you to have the telephone anywhere you like.

It's relatively simple and the wires are quite discreet.

Alternatively Virgin Media do offer a service to install a second socket to a location of your choice professionally, however I am unsure as to the cost.

Good Luck!

Thanks - yes I've done quite a few of these in the past, it's just that our house doesn't lend itself to running cables invisibly. Anyway, thanks for your response.
