Brit High low point for Ray

Published: 15 Oct 2008

RAY QUINN, the 2006 X Factor runner-up, failed to impress the makers of the all-singing, all-dancing drama Britannia High when he pitched for one of the six leading roles.

Ray, 20, was among hundreds of wannabes who turned up at an open audition but the popular singer did not make the grade.

A spokeswoman for ITV1 said last night: “He didn’t get picked - his singing was probably impressive, but I’m not so sure about his dancing.”

Speaking in a DVD documentary about the making of series, former Brookside actor Ray, who finished second to Leona Lewis in the talent contest, admitted: “It isn’t what I expected.”

The nine-parter — which focuses on a group of students at a Fame-style school for the performing arts — begins at the end of October. Boyzone and Girls Aloud will have cameo roles.

Ray was the worst X-factor finalist ever....he was very limited in his talents and did not have any solo singer/lead man potential.

He was a very obvious stage school robot with no charisma - i couldnt understand why people liked him and why he got to the final ahead of eaton road or beverly, i'll never understand.

Guess his five minutes are up now though!

I always thought he was a better dancer than singer.

I was going to post the same thing. I thought he would've got turned down because of his singing, but not because of his dancing.

They've probably done him a favour anyway. This new Britannia High show looks rubbish!

A bit off the topic of Ray, but what exactly is Britannia High about? It looks interesting, but I'm hoping it's a little bit mature, rather than, say, the British version of HSM.

I think so yeah. From what I've seen it looks quite decent

I think he auditioned for this last year or early this year.

Since then he has succeeded in the role of Doody in Grease which has been expanded for him - adding an extra solo - also apparently Arlene Philips is on the team behind both Grease and Brittania High, so she must have felt Ray was a good enough dancer

He did I believe audition for this last year, and like you said Patti Ann he is nearing the end of a very sucessful run in Grease, for which he has won good reviews for!!

David Ian is associate producer for Grease and Arlene Phillips is chreograper so it seems David and Arlene just didn't think he was right for a role in this, however they thought he was perfect in another role!!

That article is misleading. The ITV spokesperson is saying he can't really comment on his dancing not that his dancing was bad. Having watched the brief bit of the documentary where Ray is dancing he seems fine and merely comments 'it wasn't what he was expecting' it is an edit so don't know what else was said. Ray and another dancer were the last two guys from which to make a choice. One was deemed to old and there were lengthy discussions about Ray. In the end the Producer decided. Maybe the face didn't fit or he wanted an unknown. Having seen Ray in Grease I can say he is a brilliant dancer and other dancers who have been to auditions at the same time as him have also said so. I see it as Media bashing and nothing else.
