We took him to the vets and he said that he reckons the mom had an infection of some sorts (cant remember the name) and passed it on to him in the womb..

He falls over alot,, but the vet said, he will live a long and happy life...

Just wandering if anyone elses cat has this problem? And if anyone knows what it is that he had got.. Is it genetics??#

Apparantly its quite rare??

Hello stranger - it's Loopy from the thyroid site - how's tricks?

My sister's cat does this - she's had scans, tests and all sorts and they still don't know what's wrong. One vet said she had neurological damage, and another said, like yours, she had had an infection. Marmite is a very, very happy and healthy 5 year old and gets on with kitty stuff like there's no tomorrow. It's a real mystery....

Hello Harry

I have PM'd you a link which you may find helpful, I know I did.

I hope you don't mind. I didn't generalise the link as I didn't think most people would want to look at it even though they don't have to click on it. Which doesn't make sense to anyone else but me - sorry.

Our 15yr old ginger Tom is the same and has been like this for about 5 years now. Our vet said it was caused by a deep inner ear infection or virus. I don't like him to go out of the garden but sometimes he manages to get over my neighbours fence and through a gap in their gate. It upsets me to watch him struggle over the fence as his front legs do all the work the back legs just get dragged and I have to go and find him after he has had a few minutes freedom, but apart from that he is still happy, healthy and he still has his mad moments.

I'm going to try and post it on here now I know people here are interested. Hope it works, I am not very good at adding links. Please note that this what was diagnosed for my cat and maybe not the same for your sisters.

Thanks

We got ours from small heath, by asda, your sister never had the mom too??

Thanks for links, its sounds like he has cerable palsy, shame but true, but like I said the vet said and the article said, he will have a good quality of life! which is the main thing...

I'm glad you thought it was helpful. Maybe the word the vet gave you was ATAXIA?

Please keep me informed of how he gets on. It is not that rare, my friends sisters cat has the same.
