it should be the orange/white, orange to the screw labelled "A", white to "B".
though have seen them on the green/blacks.
it will be one of those two pairings, will not be mixed.

Thank you,

I also should have mentioned that the phone line has been in for around 20 years, will this make any difference? I have managed to get my hands on an NTE5 with the piper logo, you can see which wires have been previously wired to A+B, looks like blue to B and white to A. Is it also true I can just look to see whats wired to 2 and 5 in my box now? Thanks again.

yes, just match what was originally connected. if your unsure which "pair" is your incoming, strip a little of the ends and lick your fingers. then enjoy the "tingle"(it's only 50V). make sure you don't do it when someone is ringing you cos then it will hurt, or make a minion do it.(with your mobile ready) to enjoy the show.

lol,

well i took a reading of the router stats as follows:
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,325 / 8,323.
then we set about moving the socket.

We noticed the ring wire (i think) was still connected, so disconnected that first, still had a dialling tone and no noise at all on the quiet line test.

Then moved the socket as planned, and now have (the extension reading the same as the master socket):
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,325 / 15,920.

So thanks openreachpeep, its just a bit scary not knowing if you're gonna get connected again after making "the snip"

Very pleased with the speed increase
