Would you watch a Non-Celeb Strictly?

I believe there is room for a Non-Celeb Strictly to run along side the present one maybe in the Spring. It would not be as long as the present one say 6 to 8 weeks, with approx 10 people and their pro partners. They could have at least 5 new pro dancers with 5 of the present pros. They could keep Tess and get a new compere, and for the judges keep Craig and have three other new judges. Would be interested to know what people think.

Would most definitely watch a non celeb strictly. I think there is a definitie audience out there for it now

I'd be interested to know how they'd select the contestants. Would they be a bunch of semi-pro out-of-work actors and actresses desperate for exposure and the usual mob of desperate Big Brother wannabees?

yep. I'm surprised they haven't done it yet tbh. The only difficulty I suppose would be choosing the contestants - I mean I bet they would be utterly swamped with people wanting to do it.

Definitely! Can I be on it please??

How would you define a non-celebrity?

I guess they should be choosing someone with a track record of having two left feet (by the friends) and then being whipped to shape by the likes of Erin or Karen! That'll be fun to watch!

As long as they could more or less guarantee that the contestants had no prior dance experience. This would be the ideal opportunity for some real car crash moments and also seeing talent emerge from nothing. Something that is more difficult to achieve with the celebs due to the very nature of celebrity.

They should be people with no dance experience. No one from stage schools.

Or, just bring Strictly Dance Fever back.

I don't understand why they cancelled that show just because it fell short of their supposed ratings figures... *sigh*

Only if it were genuine Ms/Mr Average's from the general public who had no dance training, no theatre/TV training , no equity card & not wannabe actors/zeleb's.
The problem is it would be hard to get people from normal walks of life, as what about their day jobs? Plus I expect you'd get lots of people pretending/lying about previous experience & how would the producers be able to check up on everyone applying? I suppose they could get a PI onto the shortlist just in case.
Plus they'd have to be of a certain fitness/standard; I'm not interested in watching a no-hoper with afflictions that is unable to quick-step, even for car crash TV .

I would give it a go, but I'm sure how enthralled I'll be. If they had good contestants then, yes, there's potential, but I agree that the main difficulty would be in selecting them and getting the right mix. And I'm guessing that Mr/Mrs Average wouldn't be able to fit in training around normal everyday life. Celebs tend to be more flexible...

Out of interest, how would you define formal training? Saturday morning ballet classes that you took when you were ten? A couple of lessons before your first dance at your wedding? A dancercise classes? I think a lot of people have will have done one or the other, but still wouldn't have a clue how to dance a quickstep, tando or jive. I think having no formal training at all, as a requirement, would be impractical, but then where would you draw the line?

Definitely and I echo others in wanting to do it too!

I thought that was the civilians dancing with each other as opposed to dancing with one of the pros?? (not that I ever watched it)

As much as I love SCD, I really wouldn't be interested in a non-celebrity version. Two series a year would be complete overkill anyway and just think of the calibre of fame-grabbing contestants we'd get. Yuk! I'd rather watch fame-grabbing minor celebrities any day of the week.

Sorry to be a bucket of cold water, but - while I might watch it since I do watch an appalling amount of TV - the idea doesn't appeal to me. I think it is a prejudice that they'd all be would-be celebs just wanting to be on TV.

What would they be winning? With X-Factor/Fame Academy type shows (and I loved FA) or The Apprentice, Restaurant, etc etc, you're watching (in theory) people with talent who need a break, and it's only worth it if they have got a reasonable chance of making it afterwards (imo). With SCD you're watching people having a go at a new skill for fun, who then return to their real jobs - and are not intended to be dancers afterwards. If there was a programme where non-famous people learnt to dance with the pros, just for the fun, and won a glitterball, would they just be supposed to go back to their lives or become dancers/TV personalities? Because, from what I can see, once people have been on TV for weeks and weeks (and I'm not judging them for this, I have no idea what it's like or how addictive it might be) many, many of them seem to struggle to go back to their previous lives, they carry on wanting to be in the papers, and I find this quite sad.

I would love it if SCD ran a competition where people could win classes with Brendan, Anton et all - I can completely see why people would want to do this themselves. I would just rather it not be on TV. Sorry if that makes me a killjoy.

Some of the celebs over the years including actors and sportsmen, I hadn't heard of before SCD anyway, so, yes, I think I could enjoy a non celebrity version. You could get to know and love (or dislike) the contestants as the weeks progress.

Why not?

Why dont they just bring back Come Dancing?

Absolutely, the celeb element means nothing to me.

I'd wanna be on it Too bad I've had like fifteen dance lessons.
