Food that makes you feel happy when you are miserable, warm when it is raining and cold outside, feels like a hug, etc.

You get the picture.

The grub you curl up on the sofa with on a cold winters night when you have a thick dressing gown on in front of a real fire with the rain lashing at the windows.

Or something like that. The sort of food that's not necessarily good for you but what the hell, it makes you feel good, like a great big cuddle!

Edit: LQS, are you me?

Soup is my comfort food - big pans full of hot steamy soup always cheer me up.
My favourite is chicken tortilla soup.

I'm going to have to make some now.

I have to say, for veggie comfort food, that sounds pretty damn fine!
Especially the chips, beans and pea fritter. How are the fritters made?

Indianwells - of course wine counts. Sadly, I still have to be off it for next 6 months... boo .

I love home made soup and warm crusty bread.
I make lots of lentil, pea and ham, carrot and ginger (just discovered this one - it is lush),
carrot and coriander, leek and potato, vegetable, an so on...
Also great with mini herb dumplings - so easy and so lovely

Thanks! You'd have to ask Annie! I know lots of people don't like them but she does them wonderfully. It's just sort of mushy peas in a light batter, for those that don't know what they are. Her chips are the best I've had for so, so long too.

You're welcome! (Sorry about the wine - that's no good. ).

If it's a boy..... Elliot Finn Russell ( the latter being OH's last name - not as in going for three first names).

OOOOh and just thought of another comfort food. CHIP BUTTY with the bread slathered in proper butter.

Congratulations! That's a lovely name.

On the chip butty, I hope it's cheap, white, thick cut bread!

Your OH's name is the same as the butcher I order my meat from, Donald Russell of Inverurie. The most fantastic Sirloin steaks i've ever eaten. Not cheap, but still a lot less than restaurants and guaranteed to be the tenderest mouthful you've ever had! Steak that is!

Thanks

And of course a chip butty would not be comfort food if it wasn't thick white bread !

You have to have lots of butter on the bread so the hot chips melt the butter as you're eating the sandwich. Mmmmm.

Yep, chip butties, good wine drunk from a cheap, chipped tumbler on the beach at sunset. Now that is true class!
