Connecting a TV VCR Combi to a HDD DVD Recorder

Have just bought a Sony RDR-HXD995 and wish to connect it to:

Sony KV-14LT1U Trinitron 14" VCR Combi TV (5+ years old but excellent picture quality)
featuring a single Analogue Tuner
and one SCART socket

What is the best setup for:

(a) using the RDR-HXD995's Digital Tuner only for viewing through the Combi TV?

(b) but at the same time being able to transfer recordings from the Combi TV's VCR onto the RDR-HXD995's HDD?

I should be able to figure it out for myself but I'm sure I read various suggestions on these threads over the years for getting the best connection, setup and picture quality....should have made a note at the time

Just a SCART lead from the TV to the TV SCART on the recorder - as simple as that.

Thanks...that's basically what I did last night. Only had time to check that the Freeview Channels were OK.

Unless someone can suggest otherwise I guess I need a switch box between the TV Combi and DVD Recorder if I'm to record from the Combi's VCR to the HDD.

TV Combi-----SCART cable------Switch Box-----two SCART cables-----Line 1 and Line 3

look at page 20 of manual

Line 1 accepts signals IN / OUT of the scart socket unlike LINE 3 which is OUT only

hook up the scart to Line 1 then go to page 131 of manual andset the settings to RGB IN or video

if the dvd recorder is set to to LINE 1 then whatever you are watching on the telly will record , in theory anyway

http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3295080121.pdf

and I take it when you press play on vcr functions you can only watch the video only??

Your are best to archive all your stuff quickly as VCRs at some point break down

the only problem I can see is that line 1 may not output RGB signal to the telly but doubt you will notice the picture difference anyway and you can simply switch Line 1 to 3 after you have archieved your stuff................. saving you money

Brilliant that worked! Didn't realise that Line 1 was IN/OUT capable.

The heading at the top of page 20 put me off reading what was printed at the bottom

Another problem....

In the past I had a Sony VTX-D800U connected to the above TV. When I switched on the TV it always defaulted to the digital channel and ignored the TV's own analogue tuner. The opposite is currently happening...anyone know a fix?

The TV is forced to the SCART socket by a voltage on pin 8 of the SCART socket, your recorder should provide this when you press play, or various other functions.

At the bottom right hand side of the Remote are the TV buttons. All six buttons function correctly apart from the green TV On/Off.

In my case it turns the TV Combi off when pressed but doesn't turn the TV on when selected.

Currently I'm pressing the TV Prog + button to switch on the TV (in analogue mode) and then pressing the Input Select button to access the digital channels.
