Folders on Sony MP3 player
Nortonian
16-10-2008
I've spent years putting files in folders in the order I like on my PC and want to put them in the same order on my MP3 player. I have a 2 gig NWZ515 Sony but when I drag and dropped onto it using Windows Media Player 11 each file has become a folder and has placed them in a different order to what I want. I've tried altering file names, ie numbers even putting AAA on 1st file and so on through the alphabet but they still stay in the wrong order and only go in alphabetical order to the song titles which is not how I want them.

I have always bought Sony - any ideas how I get round this? I wonder if the 16 gig NWZ828 is the same?? Does anyone know, or are there other makes which will do what I want, but it must be drag and drop transfer through Windows Media Player 11.

Thanks for any help offered.

Hmmm..

Change the ID3 tag of the files on the "TITLE" Section to include numbers at the beginning?

Or, just search for the songs with Artists>Album>Songs method of navigation.

What happens when you makea playlist, do they play in the order that you put the playlist in?

Only things I can suggest....

just use windows explorer and drag and drop your files into the music folder. or copy paste. works perfectly for me and i have a 726
if you let a media player like wmp11 do it it will do things its own way, probably based on tags and file names instead of the directory.

Yes I can confirm wmp is the problem here, had same issue myself.

one of the 'big' features (for me anyway) of the sonys is that it still offers a true folder view (in addition to the normal artist, album etc etc) , but only if you drag n drop normal window style. WMP gets it all wrong somehow

Only issue you will have doing it this way (wndows drag n drop) is that for some reason the 'system' now gets confused about the date of the file, so the 'time machine' shuffle can't work and the date field will show as unknown when playing.
Date is preserved correctly when used via WMP

Now how that can happen just by windows dragging and dropping I don't know

yea they need to fix that issue with new firmware. for some reason many mp3s will have no date.
aac and such show date just fine. its very odd. makes time machien shuffle useless as said
