Friday 17/10/08 Uktv Pace
I'm hoping to do what I planned at the beginning. I'm just going to record DWS from now on & keep it on my Sky+ planner to watch in the New Year, when there is usually nothing decent on.
I'm getting over-saturated with it all now, for me it looses the excitement etc as I'm watching SCD & ITT as well & DWTS for me is secondary, (mostly because I hardly know any of the contestants). I'm going to watch it after SCD finishes & before DOI starts , then it won't be long before the new season in April - sorted.Unfortunately I won't want to come on here cos I'll see too many spoilers but I'll miss writing my little comments & reading everyone elses posts. I shall do a search in Jan to find out what you all thought though & if I agree .

Am keeping most of my comments for Lacey this week, so just very brief impressions of the other couples...
Maurice and Cheryl Original and entertaining. Was thinking maybe John Sergeant might decide to wear similar afro wig for his samba tonight, and maybe get a 10 from Bruno. Cody and Julianne Nice-ish. But not exceptional. Toni and Alec Brave dress Toni was wearing, and down to earth samba spirit too, quite "animal". Liked it. Cloris and Corky Corky seemed to be throwing Cloris around like a rag doll. No longer funny. Rocco and Karina Not that bad, and think he should have been kept instead of Cloris. Susan and Tony Nice traditional dance. Brooke and Derek Good rhythm and upper body movement from Brooke. Impressive. Lance and Lacey The gothic-themed tango. This was the highlight of the show, for me. I wonder where she got the idea from: had she seen something similar before. Wherever it came from, she made it her own. Gothic seems, to me, to be a perfectly fitting theme for a tango. It adds both strength, and extra meaning to the dance. A search for "gothic tango" on Google shows that the term does exist, although there's not a lot about it. There seems to be only one other "gothic tango" video on YouTube (besides Lance & Lacey's). That has very poor sound, and isn't that good: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AUKA57Qu6MU I hadn't been familiar with the lyrics of Disturbia (the accompanying song), and was thinking "gothic" more along the lines of "Charmed"/"Hammer"/myths/symbols. A few of Lacey's dance moves, like the sideways head rocking at the start, do come directly from Rihanna's Disturbia video. I couldn't imagine Julianne, who is actually a better dancer, dancing that tango as convincingly as Lacey did. In fact, I can't think of any other female pro who could do it as well. Even the way Lacey held the rose between her teeth had a feel of "fangs and blood" about it (something not in Disturbia, but possibly more authentic). I was almost expecting her to get her teeth into Lance's neck. A couple of weeks ago, Len described Warren's paso as "dark and menacing". Warren might have frightened Len, but he didn't frighten me. However, Lacey's tango.... for me, did have a sort of feel, of something dark and unknown, both scary and exciting, as though she'd stepped straight out of something in "Charmed". I think dance becomes "art" when it somehow touches "myths" - the things dreams are built of. The other dances in the show may have been better or worse, from a technical viewpoint. But this was dance as art. I'm glad Lacey had an opportunity to play to her strength, and that she took it. Warren and Kym Kym's body!!!! Los Vivancos (Results show) As discussed on the "links to watch" thread, this is basically a Chippendales group, who do a bit of foot stomping. Their style of dance seems to be referred to as "porno flamenco", though the ladies seem to find their video clips disappointing because they are not very porno, and dance aficionados find them disappointing because they are not very flamenco. |

I thought this weeks show was streets ahead of the previous week, both in entertainment value and dance standard. Even Cloris stopped being 'stupid/rude/a pain' (choose your own description!!!!) and danced nicely. In fact, I actually found myself warming to her.
Didn't agree with Len about Brooke & Derek's samba. It was full of real samba technique and danced really well, while managing to keep a sense of the razz-ma-tazz that dwts has over Strictly. The other thing I strongly disagreed with the judges was Lacey and Lance - I thought they were dreadful. The costumes, the make-up - it was like something from the Adams Family! And the dance was mad and manic as well. I did like Toni and Alec this week; she looked gorgeous in that little dress, unlike that daft costume last week, and the dance was pretty good as well. Just wish she would stop the sob story "my poor heart" etc etc etc..... think people have got past voting for sob stories now - there's been too many of them on other programs. Of the others, thought they had all upped their game; Rocco was right one to go out, although unlike Gary - his chef-counterpart on Strictly - he did try. On the results show - imo those (so-called) Flamenco dancers were pretty awful - like a very very poor version of River Dance; Flamenco it wasn't. Best part of the results show was far and wide the kids dancing. So glad they've brought that side of the comp back. I know the idea originated from Strictly using juveniles for a show, but I'm surprsied Strictly haven't stolen the idea back, and have kids competing. |

Didn't think last night was one of the best - I seem to have forgotten most of the performances. However, I really enjoyed Lance and Lacey, I thought they did a great job of doing a proper tango but with their own 'kinks'. I understand why others don't like them, but I think they are great! Brooke and Derek - good as always, but nothing spectacular. Thought Warren and Kym were slightly better than the judges but I agree it did seem a bit lacking in content. Cloris was far less annoying than usual, Susan somewhat more annoying than usual.
Results show - why no pro dance? Would have been nice to see Maks. Flamenco boys - someone in one of the Strictly threads described them as Chippendales, which I think about sums it up. Also - they were all supposed to be brothers? Really? Ne-yo - wasn't he on recently doing this same song, or am I imagining that. Possibly it was the end of the last series. Dancing kids - I love the idea, and I love watching most of them dance, but I find the actual children very, very creepy. To be fair, I would say the same of most American children who appear on TV, they all seem slightly robot-like to me.

Ne-Yo didn't perform on DWTS. Are you thinking of Usher? He was on last season.

Creepy? No - in what way? I thought they were gorgeous. The girls were stunning, with just enough "stage" make up and not over done; the boys - well, they were just boys. Natural and normal.
![]() About the kids - I love watching them dance, it's just the interviews and stuff they do with them. And it's not the children on DWtS in particular, I get the same feeling from most children on US shows (not when they are acting, when they are appearing as themselves). They always seem un-natural in the way they speak and act, to me. But that again may just be me!! |

I don't think I'm thinking of Usher - I quite like him. I must have watched something else. Wasn't there a Michael Jackson tribute at the end of the last series? Who did that? It may be that this performance reminded me of that. Or possibly I have just drunk too much wine one week in the past and am remebering something that only happened in my own little world

Mark Ballas & Kristi Yamaguchi's final dance (the freestyle) was done to an MJ song. |

No, I've got it now - finally occured to me to go back through the old threads on here. It was week 9 when Marissa went, there was a MJ tribute in the results show. I can remember it now, I don't know who actually did it as I wasn't really watching, but this really reminded me of that.

I loved Lance & Lacey this week, their tango was my fave dance. As much improved as Cloris was this week, i'm sick and tired of her to be perfectly honest! I wish she'd just get voted off.
As much as i like Ne-Yo, i didn't think much of his performance this week. I love the kids though, i think they should introduce this on Strictly. |
