Sony Rdrgx350 Dvd Recorder
BRIAN-CARSON

Hi I own three PVR's { twin digital tuners } so really all I need is a ' dependable ' DVD Recorder so that I can save items onto DVD .

It does not matter what tuner it has as I will never use it to record direct.

has anyone used a SONY RDRGX350 DVD RECORDER or
or can you suggest something better ?

Note it does not have to have a HDMI output

firstly you would be daft not to get one with HDMi as its the new scart

secondly one with a hard drive is better for recording purposes, and it doesnt have to be a particularly big hard drive............... so that will save you money

and I bet once you get it, like half the country you will hardly record to DVD ha ha, as you will keep it on the hard drive......!!

I can tell you that these have been EXTREMELY reliable, we've sold (and given away) hundred's of them - and never seen a faulty one yet.

and at £80 delivered its cheap compared to mine

just one with a hard drive may be better, and you can pick up older models for a lot cheaper !!

I was aware of it being available at superfi but they don't currently have them in stock - waiting time up to twelve days but it is a good price if its a dependable DVD Recorder.

As I have no intention of getting into HDTV until I need to I have no use for HDMI nor do I have any need for a hard drive as I only intend to use it as a DVD Recorder.

I intend to upgrade my hard drives in the three PVR's with Seagate DB35 Series 3 { I build Computers so I do know how to do this } hence the need to save recordings to DVD before switching them and once that's sorted out I will very rarely use the DVD Recorder so not fussed about a tuner either.

Thanks for all your advice

Just purchased this model (£82 Amazon) to replace archiving to VCR from Sky+.

Seems to be OK once I get my head round the different recording formats and recording modes (Video & VR).

I had planned to relocate my old cheapo Dansai DVD player to the bedroom but it seems a bit temperamental with playing back discs recorded on the Sony. sometimes it just doesnt't recognise the disc but others it plays perfectly. Seems to prefer -R discs as opposed to -RW's.

Just experimentation required I suppose.

I'm interested in purchasing one of these, and don't need a digital tuner, as I'll be recording from Sky HD.

However - you say it does not have a HDMI output, but according to this page and picture it does?

I've just downloaded the manual, and page 25 shows you how to connect a satellite or digital tuner.

However, it's showing to connect it by a scart lead, not by HDMI - does anyone know the reason for this? Does this mean I can't connect it by HDMI?

It most definitely does have an HDMI socket.

I've installed loads of them, and they definitely do have HDMI - however, assuming you have a decent TV, it's no different to RGB SCART.
