Panasonic TH42PX70 Panel buzz
PGS
18-10-2008
My 11+ month old Panny TH42PX70 has just started buzzing from the panel when there are high contrast images on screen. I have reduced contrast and brightness settings which initially helped but its back with avengeance now. Its a very high pitched noise which my wife cannot hear but its driving me mad. The noise is definitely coming up from the vents in the top of the back panel.

Anyone else had the same problem and is it something that can be cured and fixed under warranty? Its wall mounted if that makes any difference. Its been an excellent set with no noise at all until last week and I'm running out of warranty shortly.

As it's 11 months old, ring them as soon as you can - it's a common problem with Plasma's, and there should be no problem getting it sorted out.

Thanks for the info Nigel. I have not done anything about it yet, I have got until 11th Nov and it seems to be getting no worse and not everybody can hear it. I don't want to waste time off work, waiting for an engineer, to be told that he cannot hear anything.

Question: Will this get worse with age do u think? And can it be fixed in the home or does the set have to be taken away?

Many thanks in advance. Peter

It may get worse, it may never change - it's impossible to say, but Plasma's do tend to buzz.

To repair it he would probably either order parts and come back and fit them, or take the set away for repair - it really depends if there's an official modification for it as opposed to a repair.

I wonder since in the OP PGS talked about a buzz from rear vents that it may be the transformer humming - especially if it's from the side which has the power connector.

Mine has had a small buzz since day one, (March 2007,) but you can only hear it if you stand right next to the panel and the volume is muted. (I'd forgotten it was there until I saw this thread.)
