I LOVE Sunday! The chance to indulge in delicious roasts and not feel guilty about it :P

Today we're having a roasted Gammon joint, with homemade roast potatoes, carrots, peas and sweetcorn methinks. Either gravy or cheese sauce to go with it. Usually we have this or roast beef with all the bits on the side
Forgot to get a gateaux in though

What's your typical Sunday dinner like?

great thread!

now with the autumn here, i love nothing better than a nice roast on a sunday, especially if it's followed by cake and custard.

today we are having mince and onion puff pastry pie with carrot and turnip, green beans and mashed potatoes. we've got some chocolate cake in the fridge so we'll have that after it.

i might try a pork roast next week, maybe pork with stuffing, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked leeks, carrot and turnip and broccoli. mmm!

Roast free range chicken etc. We always have a roast or a casserole. we make it last 3 days - fantastic value.

It depends on my mood. Sometimes I roast a little chicken.

We went out for a superb Mexican meal at lunctime and had a couple of Margaritas afterwards (sleepy now!). I only really eat a roast dinner on Christmas Day. I find them a bit dull.

We are steadily getting lazier in our house. Years ago we used to have a lamb joint. Then we moved on to beef and now we usually just get a pre-roast chicken from the supermarket.

The sides have always been the same though.
Roasties and/or Mash
Marrowfat peas
Carrots
Chicken Gravy
Yorkshire puddings, unfortunately now usually frozen
Mint Sauce + vinegar & sugar whatever the meat. Doesn't matter
Apple sauce with chicken

Bugger off you lot! My missus is away for the next 2 weeks in the US so i'm on my own. No point in cooking a roast so it's beans on toast again for me.
On the other hand, i'm joining her in early November so when I get there I shall start to plan a githagerous Thanksgiving dinner!

I live alone so there's rarely any incentive to get in the kitchen and cook a big roast. It'd be a waste of effort for just one person, and probably end up tasting rubbish anyway (I'm an inexperienced cook). But it's definitely nice to sit down to one at my mum's house. For all her culinary flaws, she makes a bloody fantastic gravy

For some reason, I've gone off roast dinners on a Sunday. I just can't eat them anymore.

Today we had chicken, pasta and salad and I was fine with that.

Maybe it's the standing around for hours in the kitchen prepping and cooking the thing that puts me off my Sunday dinners.

A roast lion? How much did that cost?

erm, excuse me, I don't ever remember seeing you in my kitchen! How the hell do you know how long it takes me to cook anything?

On average it takes me about 2 hours to cook a roast from start to finish. That includes prepping, cooking, cleaning and clearing.

I apologise. I was saying that for me it does not take hours as I live on my own.

If you have a big family,it probably would be time consuming but it has been such a long time since I had a family meal. Christmas 2007 was the last one.

Dinner for four today. We had roast leg of English lamb, roast potatoes, sweetheart cabbage, carrots and gravy. After that we had Carte D'Or Amoretto ice-cream. We're stuffed.

Usually rotate beef/pork/ham/lamb/chicken but I must say the winner is a Roast Chicken every time.

Roast tats, carrots and cabbage with lots of butter and freshly ground black pepper.

Gravy from a roast chicken is always superb too. Mmmm .... just ate it at lunch time and now I'm talking about it I could eat it again right now.
