Moving house. BIG TV. help

I am planning on moving flats in the new year.

I don't really own any furniture and have always managed to move my belongings about fine on my own.

Now I have a large 32inch widescreen sony tv, it took 2 burly delivery men to manhandle it up the stairs and into our living room. they had to take it out of the box to get it up the stairs.

Can anyone advise me how I'm supposed to get it back out and to my new abode without breaking it or my back

I am investigating professional movers...

Good move (no pun intended). They have the experience, the correct number of people and Usually (but make sure you check) the insurance for when things go wrong either with the items they are moving or their backs!

I'm not sure how keen movers would be to move a single item though

They should be trained to do this sort of thing correctly. Provided you go with someone who's reputable that is and not some local cowboy. Indeed good firms come assess what's needed before moving day so they are ready prepared.

If it is still under warranty, you could break it, then get the repair company to collect it, fix it, and deliver to your new home!

Or you could sell it to the new owners/tenants, and buy a new one.

Either option would be cheaper than hiring a removals company.

blankets or duvet
around the tv and also on the stairs
slide it slowly - just like she said last nite

I have the original cardbox. not the foam though.

but it had to be unpacked before entering the front door so it could go up the stairs.

So it will have to leave the house unboxed, unless we remove one of the walls

and there you have your solution. Your moving out so the walls not going to be your problem!

I sort of have a solution...

1. Take the empty box downstairs and place it at the bottom of the stairs. Wait downstairs for them.

2. Wrap the television in a blanket or duvet (!) beforehand and get the moving men to take it down the stairs.

3. Get them to place the television, duvet blanket 'n all into the box, but be careful not to break the box. You may need to help them to keep the box flaps open to stop them from going in etc.

When we moved our widescreen tele (i think it's 28" so a tad smaller) we put it in the back of a metro, sourounded it by all our duvets and the big base cusions on the sofa (which we took back when we came for the next lot!) and moved it that way!

We also carried it all the way from the shop, up the lift, across the bridge, and across the car park when we brought it, and all that we had to protect it was the fact it was exactly the same size as the gap between the front seat backs and the back seat cusions! (no packaging either - ex-rental)

i will have the same problem in the next few months when me and my wife move and have to get a 42" tv downstairs(as i live in a upstairs flat) it took two men to get it up in the first place and they had to do the same as the original poster(remove it from the box to get it through the door).but the only consolation is that it is covered against accidental damage so if i drop it it is covered
