Hello bit of a newbie at the suround sound stuff, but here is the question!

I have a kdl-40s2530 tv and PS3 and have bought a dav-dz260.

Managed to connect the ps3 to the 260 and TV via optical & hdmi with no problems and it sounds fab!

but how do I connect the tv to the 260 to get prologic at least, I have it connected via hdmi which will give me DTS etc but I cannot get the TV sound out of the 260 - what is it I'm missing!

Oh and both sets of manuals are only worth wiping your backside with!!
No help what so ever!!

Unfortunately your DAV-DZ260 doesn't support analogue audio input - which is the only audio output you will get from your TV.

You would have been better getting a real surround sound amp/receiver with multiple inputs, rather than a home cinema (which is really a DVD player with its own speakers). You could invest in an alternative amp or DVD recorder which could take a stereo input and output in coaxial/optical format (most DVD recorders will allow you to do that), but if you were going to go down that road you might as well replace the home cinema thing anyway and use some of the cash you get for that to fund the purchase of a stand-alone DVD recorder and AV amp/receiver.

As your PS3 will play DVDs in better quality than your home cinema (including Blu Rays) and as your home cinema doesn't provide adequate inputs for all of your external home cinema equipment, if you can you might as well try returning it to the store where you bought it and see if they'll let you swap it/part-exchange it for an AV amp and speakers.

I'd investigate the audio connection on the front panel (stereo input jack), you may find a stereo phono -> 3.5mm jack plug may do the trick - you will have the wire showing on the front while in use but this may get you surround sound from the TV. Select "Audio" via the function button on the remote when you want to hear the TV via the amp.

The only other way is to use the scart, pretty sure this is in/out. Once connected select "TV" via the function button on the remote.

Ok, thank you for the replies so far, have just spoken to the local sony centre about connecting them and they said the only way is via scart in av2 (smartlink) which will give me the sound from the TV.

As to taking it back - brought it from asda on a special price, plus on their web site, they state that if there is nothing wrong with the item they won't refund or exchange, so guess i'm stuck with it ( must admit the sound from the ps3/360 is superb, no real worries just a shame that sony are a bit tight on the inputs!

I will try later with the scart to see if it works.

Can't help feeling a bit dissapointed by sony TBH.

The 3.5mm input on the front works as well as the scart, Sony don't really know much about their own products do they.

You shouldn't have a problem with scart, it will also look better too as you won't have a wire trailing down the front.

Sony Centres aren't anything to do with Sony, so that doesn't apply.

Basically it's a fairly poor surround system, with a distinct lack of any inputs - as suggested, it has a 3.5mm stereo socket on the front, and you should feed that from the audio phono outputs on the back of the TV.

The centres carry the Sony name so I would have assumed they are agents for them, they are a dedicated dealer allowed to sell Sony products, presumably an arrangement through Sony where they sell Sony's products on their behalf.

Pretty sure Sony would take their franchise away if they were inundated with complaints.

Still should have known what they were talking about.
