Anyone think the character of John Stape in Corrie is a bit too well-mannered to convince as a kidnapper? Perhaps the actor is too pleasant to convince or the writers haven't the courage to make him a bit more psychopathic? I hope he turns a bit more menacing. The writers should let the actor really let go and turn angry, certainly when the 'Rose held prisoner' storyline reaches its end. I think if John doesn't show much emotion it will be a bit of an anti-climax.

It could be a bit extreme but maybe he tries to kill Rosie? Something like that to make it a bit more interesting.

It's a stupid storyline anyway. He's totally unconvincing as a kidnapper.

I think his anger and resentment should boil over.

"You've ruined my life, Rosie. Now it's time to ruin yours."

If he knows the police have him surrounded, he could try and kill Rosie. I hope he doesn't say:

"okay, Rosie, you can go."

And that's it! Would be a bit lame.

He has that "psycho" about him though - definately seems like a guy living on the edge. There is not a stereotype for kidnapper, is there?

I agree he's a bit odd so it's not a stretch to think he's a bit of a psycho, although we haven't see real evidence of this. Most people don't hold young women captive but my point is more to do with John showing real anger. At the moment he's suppressing his anger and resentment. If he went really crazy and were prepared to kill Rosie we would see a full character arc - from nice teacher to psychopath.

I'm not a corrie watcher but caught the episode last night where he was all apologetic because he didn't get her hobnobs.

What? The? Hell?

If I were Rosie he'd get a swift kick in the nuts and I'd be out the window. I actually thought the scene was a bit of a joke! Wasn't this guy the teacher she copped off with? And then he was saying to Sally 'that's what friends are for'? so weird!!

This isn't me completely taking the mick, these are genuine questions from a new viewer!

I think he kidnapped her in the heat of the moment then couldn't let her go because she'd tell people and ruin his relationship with Fiz again.

John doesn't even acknowledge that he has kidnapped Rosie. It's the insane level of denial and the absolute belief that he is doing the 'right' thing that makes him really dangerous.

How far will he go to conceal his crime and protect his relationship with Fiz?

The main pointer to mental instability for me was his explaining to Rosie that it was all her fault for not leaving Weatherfield, as he had told her to do the last time he kidnapped her. That's the sort of thing serial killers say

Any man who is stupid enough to fall for the advances of a 17 year old and then turn round and accuse her of ruining his life is a prat. He lacks maturity and I don't think he is nice to anyone to be honest.

I think I'm in the minority, but I think he's good as a baddie, actually. Because he seems so nice and mild-mannered, it makes it much creepier than if he were a stereotypical thug (like Sean on EastEnders, for example). That Dennis Nilson who was a serial killer some years back was a quiet, unassuming civil servant. I think John's like that (though not so bad!)
