Samsung LE40R74BD HDMI - Laptop is fine but not Sky HD (or DVD)
I've just had Sky HD (Samsung) fitted, but when I connected the HD box up to the TV, I could switch to HDMI (so it looks like the TV recognises something is connected to it) but I had a blank screen.
The same thing happened a while back with my Samsung DVD player (not blu-ray) - so I switched to Scart and thought nothing more of it. However, I can connect my new Samsung Laptop up to the TV via the HDMI cable without any problems. Could this be a resolution setting ? or a frequency setting on the TV - when I have the laptop connected and I press the info button - a window pops up on the TV which says the following : 1280 x 720 @60Hz I've just connected the Sky HD box up via HDMI again - and when I press info (in HMDI source) I get the following : 1920x1080i @50Hz and if I change the output on the sky box to Automatic, then I get : 720 x 576 @50Hz I have tried a few (3) HDMI cables, but as it's the same for the DVD player - I reckon its a TV problem. Was hoping it's some simple config issue - maybe the kids switched the TV into a dodgy HDMI mode ????? Any ideas ? The sky installer didn't have a clue and just connected up the scart. So no HD

the manual I will have a look, its funny it seems to reconise the sky box........ is there a setting in sky box to use HDMI instead of scart? as I have only a sky + box myself and can the laptop accept sky IN via HDMI? then we would know the sky box HDMI actually works |

Haven't tried connecting Sky to Laptop. Interesting.
When I do that - are there any applications I need to run to confirm that info is indeed coming from the Sky HD to the Laptop ? |

Sounds like an HDCP problem with the TV?, no HDCP from the computer, so no problem - there may be a software update for the TV, or it may be faulty.

Yep - I've been there to check out any firmware updates - but there's only user-guides.
I've also posted this as a support request on the samsung site. So we'll wait and see. The samsung Sky HD box doesn't have a component-out either - so cant even connect my telly up to that. Any other way of getting some sort of HD output while I get an answer out of Samsung ? even if I have to buy a special cable. Ta for the guidance so far fellas. |
