Len Taking A DWTS Break!
According to some write-ups on last night's DWTS show, host Tom said that in the result show they will meet a world renowned guest judge who will take over from Len next week. Apparently, Tom just said Len will be taking a break and this guest judge will be filling in for him from next week
I wonder who this guest judge will be? |

I heard - before the show started - that Len had requested that he only appeared in dwts every other week, as the jet-setting was getting too much been dwts and Strictly. The request was turned down, but seemingly with a compromise!

They're introducing more dances like Hustle and WCS. Also next week they're dancing a group hiphop so I'm not expecting the replacement to be from the same background as Len.
I'm guessing Wade Robson. How long is this break Len is taking? |

It better be a ballroom judge. The group dance they do midseason is always a different dance. In the spring it was country/western theme & I can't believe I've blanked on the style of dance. lol
I'm hoping for someone like Nick Kosovich. I read there will be more than one guest judge while Len is on a break |

Yes it would be great to see more ballroom judges on the panel but they are moving away from traditional ballroom every season so logically I wouldn't be surprised to see a non ballroom judge next week.
I read there will be more than one guest judge while Len is on a break In season 3 the group dance was a disco theme, in season 4 it was a swing, this past spring it was square dancing (and it took me until now to figure out square dancing, I kept saying country/western which is what it was but the dance itself was square dancing...my mind has gone to crap tonight). |

This is the first season they've included non ballroom dances as a part of the competition.

Actually it's not, they've danced mambo, a rhythm dance, since series 3 and they've dropped the waltz and just dance the viennese waltz
I know I saw the mambo because they divide the show up into American Smooth, American Rhythm (our pro Tony Dovolani & Elena Grinenko just recently retired but they did a show dance), International Standard & Internation Latin. |

Sorry, I have always just thought that mambo & V.Waltz were ballroom dances. I never thought DWTS was strictly international latin/standard. Which I thought V.waltz was danced in international standard?? I could have sworn i saw it in a competition on TV back in January. Here in the States in January they air the Ohio Star Ball (known on tv as America's Ballroom Challenge) & I thought I saw the V.waltz danced. I could be wrong about that though.

Hip Hop dancing comes to DWTS
A sad day! Isn't there enough of that rubbish on other American shows! I prefer DWTS to SCD but they'll end up watering it down and ruining it! Typical American producers going for ever larger ratings.

I think the American dwts producers just love fiddling with the show - trying to "improve" it. (i.e., pull in younger viewers which advertisers seem to covet) Also unless they drastically change the format, the group hip hop dance won't be judged anyway, although they'll probably comment on it briefly. The dances the couples do will be:
Spoiler
I'm an American, btw, and I hate the changes. We've had creepy musical acts too - faux Flamenco dancers who were really just male strippers, Jessica Simpson, the Jonas Brothers, that dime-a-dozen production number that looked like it belonged on an awards show -
Spoiler
We really know how to screw up a good thing. However, I heard the ratings dipped last season so maybe they're doing damage control (so they think.) And I also heard ratings were UP for our 4 new "club dances" so what do I know... |

What's the general feeling in the US about Michael's judging? From watching the youtube clips, I think he was a refreshing change from all the shouting. We've never had a quietly spoken judge (on either side of the pond).

I'm suspicious of this. If Len is so worn out from the travelling, why is he doing more on ITT than ever before?

Given that he has now confirmed that if he is asked by the BBC he will be doing SCD next year, I doubt if he will do a another full season of DWTS as well. Some compromise will be needed about how often he appears as a judge, otherwise I think he'll say 'no' to the next season of DWTS. Just my thoughts.

Len - and the other judges on both sides of the pond - are under contract to appear. Len tried to get out of the contract with dwts, but they wouldn't let him. When dwts first appeared, it was at a different time of the year to Strictly, so there wouldn't have been a problem then - and of course Len was a few years younger then!

Could they not reduce DWTS to one series a year like the rest of the World are. The Australian verson used to be on twice a year too but that's now on once a year now. The spirng series would be the best and axe the fall/autumn series which is on the same time as SCD.

When dwts first started it was earlier in the year. The second (every year) series was only introduced when the show proved to be so popular. But I agree, once a year would probably be enough. It would also be interesting to see some episodes from other parts of the world - Heaven forbid more whole series!!! But an episode here and there would be good. |

Has Len always been on DWTS then? Is this the first time of a season he's taken a break?

Yes he's been head judge on DWTS since it first began in the US and this is the first time he has ever taken a week off. It was when it started clashing with Strictly Come Dancing that the problems arose and this year he has found it harder than ever travelling between London and Los Angeles every week, even though it is first class! There must be all sort of problems, not least worries about health with DVT, etc. If the same clash happens next year, he has already said that he would stay with Strictly in the UK.
