This is saying more about your TV than the source unit.
You need to check your TV settings for this . There will probably be independent settings for that input.

They are probably 4:3 sources in that case.
There is a special setting for how the machine handles 4:3 video specifically when connected via HDMI
Setting is under: Functions / To others / Setup / Connections / HDMI settings / Aspect for 4:3 Video
