Blu ray bargain

The recently released excellent Sony S350 Blu ray player has today dropped in price to £129 at Laskys & Amazon, down £50 overnight & £120 since release! so anyone wanting a great BD player at a Bargain price now could be an excellent time

Laskys are out of stock. Wonder if they'll keep the price.

Amazon one for £120 is used "like new", but new ones seem to be nearer £170 plus P+P.

Hmmm... seems to be quite a few Blu ray players in the market now, hopefully this means the prices will start to fall. When do you think we might see the first sub £100 player from a decent manufacturer?

“Laskys”

I haven't heard that name used in years. Very popular in the '70s and '80s. Are they still on Tottenham Court Road or was this another branch?

Sorry this is off-topic, just intrigued as to why they seemed to disappear.

There used to be a Laskeys near me as well. Bought my first ever widescreen TV from them.

I think they simply switched to being an online business and ditched all the high street stores. Smart move really, much lower overheads in an online model.

Thats assuming it's even the same company. Maybe they went bust and someone else just bought the name?

Dunno .....

Amazon prices have been up & down all day on this as it went from stock to no stock, they had 79 last night but dissapeared fast today, more stock due though, laskys still @ £129 & Richersounds at a few stores have beat that by £10 so £119!

Laskys price back up to £199 now to match Amazon.....must have cleared Sonys current stock! but with sony's profits down 49% chances are the price will drop again soon.

They're owned by the same group as Comet.

Many thanks for the news fellas about Blu Ray players prices coming down.

I currently have a Sony BD500 Blu Ray at the mo and am considering buying a second machine to use in addition to the other three DVD players I already have; (one is a recorder, other is a multi-region, and the third one is a DVD-VHS combi) so good to see I might be able to get the Sony BD300 at a lower price.

Will look around though, am sure Richersounds might have a good deal going.

Not sure if the BD500 is the same as the BD300 in loading and power up speeds... but my BD300 takes about 60 seconds from powerup before the open/close drawer works then another 50 seconds to read the disc and start up spinning. It's the slowest player I've ever come across and an absolute joke.... performance wise it's excellent.

One other annoyance (and maybe all blu ray players do this) but when a DVD or BD main menu is displayed, where you can choose to play or goto a scene select or other options... you cannot press the regular 'play' button to play the disc, you have to use the cursor arrows to highlight 'play' onscreen then press ok.. I find this amazingly poor design!

I find it amazing at the downright terrible overall design of this player, sure it does give very good DVD and BD playback but the slowness of it, the fact it can crash if you use slowmotion, pause and scene skipping too much and the aformentioned idiotic playback nonsense at the main menu makes it my most disliked Sony purchase ever... luckily at £50 I can (just about) live with these ridiculous 'features' /rant over
