Pret a Manger
I can't believe I have been ignoring this place for years...until last week when I went to the one at Bond Street station. I had a delicious Italian chicken salad, spicy falafel melt, cheese and bacon croissant, lemon cake, hot chocolate and fresh orange juice, and let the world go by as I enjoyed every last morsel!
I never realised the food was so good, and it's also made with fresh ingredients, prepared daily on the premises. Here is their menu: http://www.pret.com/menu/ I don't know what to get from there next, as everything there looks yummy. What are your Pret favourites? |

I don't think I've ever actually been in a Pret, always thought it was a bit Starbucks-esque. Although I do remember when we got a big tray of their sandwiches delivered for someones birthday. Thought they were pretty good.

I get my lunch there every day (practically). The Chef's Italian Chicken Salad is only 319 calories (if you don't use the dressing) and the Tuna Tricoloure Sala is only 249 calories.

Their coffee is not much to write home about.
I have never tried their food and by all accounts (on here) it's good - if expensive. |

I used to buy a cappucino there nearly every day, but at nearly £2 a shot it's had to go in these hard times..........

They do a beautiful salmon and lemon butter sandwich aswell - and the soups are fantastic.
I believe I read, aswell, that all the food they don't sell by the end of the day is given to homeless shelters instead of just being thrown in the bin? Very charitable. But yes, expensive, sadly. But we make room for it, because it's worth it. |

Do they still sell 'breadless sandwiches'?

A pret sandwich is usually 'pret-ty' nice, But I have a gripe with their baguettes and, indeed the baguettes of many other sandwich shops:
The filling never seems to go the full length of the baguette! This means the first bite is one consisting of nothing but bread, before you get to the filling.

Yes, Greggs baguettes tend to be well-filled and are cheaper! I love the tuna one

Pret do some of the nicest coffee in the country, in that in Lattes you an almost taste the coffee and milk seperately! Occasionally they make it a bit strong though.
There are many Pret branches in central London in particular. When I got off a bus at Trafalgar Square, and walked towards Whitehall, I could see branches on both sides of the road at once! New branches opened recently in Manchester, at Piccadilly station and Oxford Road, just north of the station. Conversely, a branch closed in Sheffield near Meadowhall about 10 years ago. I think Sheffield is the biggest city in Britain without a Pret in the city centre. |

I have never tried their food and by all accounts (on here) it's good - if expensive. Went in with my OH the other day he had an Americano (said it wasn't a patch on Nero coffee) and I had a caramel latte and had to spoon half of the overly thick froth out to get to the very mediocre coffee |

It's really overpriced for what it is.

I like their soups, in particular the butternut squash & sage, and the pulled pork - both delicious. Yes, it is expensive but for someone like me who can't eat dairy I find they have quite a few options that have no dairy in at all, and they list their ingredients on their shelf-edge labels which makes it easier to spot suitable foods.
The coffee is good too, and a bit cheaper than Starbucks, Caffe Nero etc. |
