There are many Pret branches in central London in particular. When I got off a bus at Trafalgar Square, and walked towards Whitehall, I could see branches on both sides of the road at once!

New branches opened recently in Manchester, at Piccadilly station and Oxford Road, just north of the station.

Conversely, a branch closed in Sheffield near Meadowhall about 10 years ago. I think Sheffield is the biggest city in Britain without a Pret in the city centre.”

There was one in the meadowhall complex it's self but this closed. This was the only one I ever seen. I remember enjoying sandwiches there. Can't believe it's been 10 years ago though.

What's going on today? Dr. Frankenstein joined the forum?

Pret stuff is OK. For a while it turned into being heavily oversalted and everything had far too much mayo in it. I'm glad they've reversed that decision. I couldn't eat their food as it was.

here we are 5 or 6 years on.........and the finances have picked up considerably

But I never did go back to buying a cappuccino every day from Pret

I'm not worried about the money, I'm worried about putting on the weight.......

I remember this wonderful day from six years ago. I ate so much that I was actually close to vomiting. I got the tube straight afterwards, and as ever so gently moved between stations, I was really trying so hard to contain myself. Every small movement of my body was torturous. It was still a glorious, glorious culinary experience though.

I prefer Eat to Pret. Eat do amazing soups. I work near 2 branches of Pret so I am bored rigid by them. They put in too much greenery, presumably to bulk it out cheaply. Or there is always too much juicy stuff, mayo or dressing. I find eating their sandwiches a messy experience. And if you ate there each day you would be the size of a house. High in calories. I like the coffee though and the pain a raison is good value. In London there are too many Prets, Eats, Costas and Starbucks. There needs to be a better variety and choice.

I like Pret soups sometimes but they can be a bit bland so I put in 6 pepper sachets to lively them up. I prefer making my own sandwiches for work: cheaper, healthier, more filling and it has the ingredients I want in them.

Plus it's a good way of using up food at home.

Back in the day I used to love buying their Posh Cheddar Artisan baguette - but since I discovered I was overweight and had to watch calories that's like a once a year treat. Mind you the Italian Prosciutto on Artisan isn't too bad calorie wise and tastes amazing.

People say their sandwiches are overpriced but unless you really go for the cheap and cheerful supermarket ones (which are not made on the day) it's not excessive.

Their salads (including the aforementioned Crayfish and Avocado at £3.99 for a tiny portion) are a complete rip off though.

The popcorn is a good healthy option as a snack.

Love Pret a Manger. Its expensive but the food is brilliant. The Granola yoghurts and sandwiches are divine. Very tasty and nutritious wholefoods.

They bought a 33% stake in 2001, but sold it in 2008 apparently.
