Any idea what onions i can eat?
I like onions in salad sandwich but which onions to buy?
My Mum used to buy 'Spanish onions' which were very large but mild enough to eat in a salad as opposed to English onions which are small and too strong to eat, and only really suitable for cooking When i look around Tesco dont seem to sell Spanish onions or in fact any onions i can recognise as eating onions - they all look like small cooking onions Any idea what onions i can eat? (apart from spring or pickles) |

Red onions are milder and sweeter than yellow or Spanish onions. They are probably the best you can get for a salad.
Don't forget spring onions (sometimes called salad onions) though. They are long and thin and are white one end and green the other and are sold bound together. A tip for all onions though, to make them less harsh: Slice your onions and place them in a bowl of cold water for 5 minutes, before removing and drying them on kitchen towel. makes them taste much milder. |
