No doubt about it, they were all miming, pretty ridiculous since they are all supposed to be able to sing.

Yeah I noticed it to, they all had flawless vocals after performing nowhere near as well to stay in the competition.

They were miming, which was silly because they have all proved they can sing live.

It's obvious because Laura and Alexandra took Ruth's part (with a spanish accent) and Austin took Daniel's part when they failed to appear on stage.

Yes, there were many threads about this on the X Factor forum too. I think Simon Cowell didn't want to risk the charity record not sounding right. So instead, everyone ends up looking very silly.

EDIT: And on the ITV2 show he blamed Ruth and Daniel's non-appearance on a sticking door!

Yes, it was plainly obvious they were miming.

The vocals were all a bit of a mess in the end - especially as two of the contestants were stuck behind a jammed door.

It was perfectly obvious to me the instant Eoghan started to sing in perfectly in tune! Can't say i noticed Ruth and Daniel not being there, nor the hasty covering of them not being there.

Another clue that it was mimed - they were all in tune for a change.

Usually I'm against miming, and totally agree that these are people who have proven time and time again that they can sing. However, I can also understand why it needed to be perfectly sung - at the end of the day it's a charity song and futhermore some of the very people that the charity song is going to help were sat right there in the audience. We've seen them make mistakes in the live performances and have sub-par vocals, and it would be a tad disrespectful if that were to occur when performing the charity song - especially when the idea is that people go out and buy the thing.

two of them also had to sing again so perhaps they were all saving their voices just in case

How did Laura and Alexandra know to sing Ruth's part and Austin to sing Daniel's? Is there more to this and I haven't read it yet?

They might as well start practising now ... Most performers nowadays can't be bothered to sing live, with a few notable exceptions.

Didn't Westlife say, "What's the point of singing live when we get paid the same for miming?"

I'm guessing the main reason for miming was that it would have been too much effort for the sound crew to have all the microphones live and to get the levels right. It's a shame, but in the grand scheme of things, it's more important that they put their efforts into making them sound as good as possible for the actual competitive bit.

I'm pretty sure every line has been given a backup vocalist, in case such a situation where the real vocalist can't do the line (whether being ill, or stuck behind a door ).
