Hi, I am new to all this Home Cinema stuff and don't really know how to set up my home cinema. My problem is I don't know how to get HD audio through my speakers. I have: Samsung LE52A656, Samsung HT-TZ315 Home Cinema, Sony BDPS350, and SD SKY+ box. My question is how do I get the most out of the HD soundtracks on Bluray and DD 5.1 on SKY+ ? What connections do I use Thanks in advance! PS. Please try to explain in simple terms! Cheers!

Ok, firstly it only has one "Optical in" connection so this is the first problem; in essence you need an optical cable from the BD Player to the HT Amp. & another from Sky to HT Amp. but only one input is available on the HT Amp. so you will need a spliter/Switch in order to select the device required to input at any one time, something like this; http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...C=SO&U=strat15

You will also need 3 x toslink (Optical Cables) one from the HT to the Switch then one ot each device.

You will not be able to take advantage of the High definition sound formats available from the Blu ray I'm afraid via optical (True HD & HD DTS MASTER) via optical & also the HT Amp does not decode them, You will therefore get DD 5.1 & DTS only. From Sky you will get DD 5.1 when being transmitted but you need to set it in the the Sky menu to Dolby. Hope that helps

I'm sorry but I cant see what advantage this would give you? Do you only have one HDMI input on the TV

No HD audio as you say, but can I add and I think it is worth mentioning they will get the DTS core of 1.5Mbit/s from DTS HD MA soundtracks. This is the equivalent of full bitrate DTS which can be found on some unique DVD releases, this should give them slightly better audio when available. Not HD audio but a step up in quality to normal DVD's.

Sorry, I meant plug the splitter into the one HDMI socket on the HT and then BLURAY>SPLITTER>HT and then have the TV in the other HDMI on the splitter? Sorry to be a pain but I need HD audio lol!

Pretty sure the HDMI on the HT system is only an output, this means you would need to connect this to the TV, the BDPS350 would also need to be connected to the TV via HDMI as the HT system in this case is not cable of video switching.

The best this system will offer as Paul has mentioned is DD5.1 and DTS (full bitrate from BD when available) by connecting Sky/BDPS350 via optical.

To be able to listen to HD audio from your BDPS350 you would need an amp that is HD audio compatible.

Sony STRDG820 partnered with either the Yamaha NSP110 for under £300 or the Onkyo SKSHT518 for £420.

This is about as cheap as HD audio gets at the moment.
