philips lx3750w speaker compatibility

Having bought this DVD Surround Sound system, I have just had the misfortune to have the DVD Player fail on me, so was looking to replace the DVD player & hopefully adapt the suround system to the new player, however having had a quick look in Comet think that all ne DVD Players on the market have different connections?

Can anyone recommend a DVD Player that might be compatible with this sound system, or perhaps suggest a way i can adapt the connections to suit (the players i have seen seem to have - for want of a better expression - a 'round-type' connection, as opposed to the 'rectangle-type found on my existing Philips sound system).

Yours hopefully, Eidy.

Sounds like the player is part of an "all in one system".

One of the many downsides of these systems is if one component fails you normally have to replace the whole system.

As you say it has a unique way of connecting the various components together, trying to find something that matches this will be nigh on impossible, first stop would be the manufacturer I suppose, but I wouldn't hold out much hope.

You are probably looking at a new system, I can offer some help if you were to give me an idea of budget.

Personally I would go for a system comprising of separates, this way if something was to fail you would just need to replace that particular piece of equipment, not the whole system.

You would be looking at an AV receiver, 5.1 speaker package and DVD player, easily achievable for under £200.

Thanks deacon1972 - i have 2 options at the moment 1) go for a cheap dvd playere & put up with the sound quality for now, or 2) go for a sound system/dvd option (up to £300), with a compatibility to play both Blu Ray & DVD (saw something the other day for £200 without the sound system) - Do all Blu Ray players also play normal DVD's?

Cheers, Eidy.
