Leona has the big advantage of having a strip down version: no loud backing band on big band night.

Fantasia, then Leona, and ruth is very far behind because summertime is not meant to be sexy.

Leona in my opinion. I thought her version had something else to it.

Leona's has something about it; something that makes it special.
But all 3 versions are different; but great in their own right. I find it hard to rank them tbh because the only things that are similar about them are the words and background music. In all honesty, if I had to choose a favourite version I'd choose Leona's; but thats just "for me"; if I were rating on quality of the performance each has their own *something* that makes it stand out. |

Ella Fitzgerald. Try this version by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - they could be singing a baby to sleep. Something that none of the XF or AI singers seem to understand is that Summertime is a lullaby.

I always find it quite hard to actually compare Leona and Fantasia's because they were so completely different. But personally, I prefer Leona's by quite a bit, then Fantasia and then some way behind, Ruth. She was good, but it was the wrong song for her because it was such an obvious comparison and she wasn't even the best performance of the night. The previous performances of that song have been among the best talent show performances of the 21st century.

Fantasia by a long a** country mile.
Leona just oversang most of it, and doesn't have half the personality. I do think it's technically better than Ruth's. Although I kind of PREFER Ruth's to hers... I just think Leona's is another case of Simon lazily lifting from a great A.I. performance. Summertime is the type of song that makes the rounds on these shows, but you can't tell me that he wasn't thinking of Fantasia's brilliant performance when he picked it. |

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1yKgAEkCKxY That version is definitely the worse version I have heard, the version that Fantasias is style on. |

Hands down Fantasia , gut wrenching heart breaking soulful all this coming from a teenager who'd never heard of the song a week before she performed it
Ruth at least tried to put a mature individual spin on it Leona's performance betrays her stage school background and the style is anything but individual |

Although they are all very amazing performances and no comparisons should be made because they are three totally different singer.
If I had to put them in order I would say 1. Leona 2. Ruth 3. Fantasia All of them added something different.
