Looking For Discrete Wall-Mount speakers (4 ohm)

Does anyone know where I can get some small / flatish wall-mount speakers for my AV system? It seems you can get them with the amps, but not individually. I don't want bookshelf speakers that will stick out too far, it needs to be pretty discrete.

Thanks.

The only manufacturer that I know that do 4ohm speakers are M&K, they can be expensive.

I'm pretty sure you could run 6-8ohm speakers on the system without any problem, 4ohm speakers tend to be more demanding on the amp, 6-8ohm speakers are not, it will certainly give you more options.

Small discrete speakers are normally satellites and really need a sub to back them up, suitable for multichannel operation but not on their own for stereo.

Will these speakers be for stereo or as a part of a multichannel system?

Two manufacturers to look at - Anthony Gallos and KEF.

Hi Deacon1972,

They are to replace existing speakers on a 5.1 system. I have the wires plumbed into the walls, but the speakers are currently hanging precariously off these wires because they have no wall mounting (they are from a Sharp 5.1 system which is no longer available, and no-one does a wall bracket for these speakers - they are also a bit big given that they seem to be mostly air!).

I'd happily take a full set of speakers if it works out cheaper than buying 2 pairs. I guess a higher impedance isn't going to be a problem - I never crank it fully up anyway!

I should also point out, this is not exactly Hi-Fi - it's a fairly crappy Sharp SD-AT1000H cinema system - so I'm not going to spend more than a hunded or so quid on speakers.

What I'm after is something maybe like this:

but with ~100W rating.

Has the system got the normal spring clip connections?

How about the Yamaha NSP110 speaker package, providing your system can accommodate them - £50?

They do them in black for £80 as well.

The system is 6ohms so you will be ok.

Thanks for that. Yes, they are sping-clip terminals. Just looking at the Yamaha system you linked - the sub is powered, so no use to me, but the speakers could be interesting. Only thing is, I suspect the same problem looking at the specs on the Yamaha site - no wall mounting brackets!

Actually, those Yamahas can be mounted straight onto a wall with approprtiate screws - I think I might get them (in black).

Thanks for your help, Deacon1972!

A shame about the sub, a pity it doesn't have high level inputs where it would act similar to a passive sub, I suppose that would be expecting too much at this price range - Oh well, still cheap enough for 5 satellites.

Those who have bought this package have really liked it.

I think if you do a google search for Flat Panel speakers, you'll find a plethora of better options.

Jamo also used to make flat panels, I had a set for many years, but I can't find them any longer.

And if your well to-do, then Quad electrostatic speakers are the absolute snakes eyebrows.

Oh Rats! I'd forgotten about them. They are extremely nice. Heard a pair demonstrated and it made a world of difference to Vivaldi, not bad with Whitesnake either, I didn't realise they made subwoofers to die for as well! Such crisp clean sound.....Now if I start saving I could just get a set-up by the time I retire.
