Quick help on buying an hdtv

Just some quick advice. I want to move up to a 42" HDTV. Now i'm faced with a few dilemmas.

I could get a no-name HDTV, 42" with 1080p support but only 4800:1 contrast ratio. It's LCD. For £450.

Or I could get a brand name one about £500, non-1080p, but with 15,000:1 contrast ratio. What sounds like the better bet?

I wouldn't touch the mirai with a ten foot stick, the samsung will be alot better. Go to currys or comets and have a look at the tvs to get an idea. What will you be using the tv for? mostly SD content from freeview or lots of hd content?

A mixutre of both. Sky HD and PS3 content mainly though.

£30 more than the Samsung.

Full 1080p HD, 24fps and it's a Sony. Plus .... free 5 year guarantee as it's from John Lewis .... which would cost you far more than £30 extra.

The Samsung is OK. I also woulnd't touch the Mirai with a shitty stick ..... the Sony is an excellent deal from an excellent retailer.
