I'm moving house and moving in with someone who doesn't want my fish there

I've asked around and don't know anyone who will take him - what should I do? I can't flush him down the toilet or anything like that

He's just a normal goldfish type fish.

They don't like any animals including fish. Can't really moan though cause it's their house

That was going to be my suggestion - or local garden centre with a fish pond - but I do not know what issues there might be about letting a "domestic" fish loose with "wild" ones.

Take them to a pet shop
You might even get money for them

Will you be sharing a bedroom with them? If not can you not just put the little guy in there?

I'd smuggle him in. Keep him on a little shelf. they hopefully wont notice.

I'd just like to say your new roommate is a bit of a stinker!

What possible objection could someone have to one single solitary little goldfish?

Poor little fella. Honestly, some people.

A pet shop won't take him, in case he has an infection and makes the others ill. I think your best bet is an ad in a local shop window, 'free to a good home'.

I know how you feel. My boyfriend won't let me have pet rats.

I wonder why

I'm being serious. I loved my little ratties (sadly departed now). I've always grown up with pets, but he isn't really an animal lover so won't get to have a cat or dog either

I haven't a clue why anybody would object to goldfish

I wouldn't be moving in with someone who didn't want my fish in the house.

Whereabouts are you?

If you're anywhere near Edinburgh, I could be tempted to adopt a fishie.

Failing that, stick an ad on gumtree or freecycle or something. Someone will take him ....

Maybe a local infants school would like him.

Do fish like friends? I had Simon for almost a year, and he is a solitary fish. I worry about getting him a mate incase they don't get on.

I'd try and talk to who you are moving in with. Ask them what concerns they have, and put thier mind at ease. Hopefully if you can explain how little a fish would impact on them, they'll be more open to the idea.

I feel really sad - I know it's a fish and it's a pain in the butt to clean out etc but it makes me nearly cry to think of him being abandonded by me

lol, I'm so stupid

Ring your local animal rehoming centre. They keep contact details of people who'll take in unwanted fish/budgies/hamsters etc.

What sort of people object to a single goldfish?

(No offence to you, OP), but I wouldn't want to share any part of my life with people like that.

Hope you can find a good home for him.

Yes, you know the old saying "Love me, love my dog."

If he won't compromise about a thing like that , which is such a small thing to him, but means so much to you, I'd really have a think about what your future relationship will be like.

He sounds a selfish sod to me.
