Having seen my mates Samsung, compared with my (far lower in the range than the W series you mention) Sony ...... I'd go for the Sony.

In saying that though, I'm not sure he's ever bothered setting the Samsung up properly .... and they are notorious for needing a lot of tweaking from the factory settings to get the best from them. The Sony required very little fiddling to get me happy with the picture.

Yes, the Sony W series are great sets - far better than Samsung.

Sony would be better...and well worth the extra £100. Have a look at John Lewis, they are currently doing a free 5 year warranty with all of the tvs.

Input lag 30ms faster than Samsung F96 for the sony. whereas the Samsung LE40A656 is 30 ms slower.
How much of a difference does this acutally make in the real world.
Also should i get one with a LED backlight as supposedly has a better color gamut [i.e color range].
Wonder how much of a difference the led backlight makes can the human eye detect it ?
