I was just reading a thread here, and someone said they walk their dogs 4-5 times a day

Blimey - that seems an awful lot, unless its just a little trip around the close.

I take mine out only once a day. It take about 1.5hrs, and i do it first thing in the morning to knacker them out. Thats plenty in my eyes. My dogs are lean mean running machines.

My Parents dogs get walked twice a day, once in the morning and at lunchtime.
Mine normally gets a quick walk round the block in the morning and at lunch and then a huge walk round a lake at tea time.

My sisters Huskey went to a dog whisperer and they told her not to walk him as he didnt need it wtf ?!?!?!?!?!?! gradually brought back walking in after a month or so but if he got excited about going for a walk the lead would go back down and he wouldnt go for a walk. Thats just cruel IMO, wouldnt you get excited at the prospect of going out when stuck indoors all day on your own ffs

Poor Huskey Stupid dog whisperer

Ours get three walks a day. Usually short (30 mins) morning and afternoon with a long walk in the evening.

They get excited to go out. But they just have to 'sit' or 'stand' while the leads/clothes go on and 'wait' while the door is opened - excitement I don't mind but I won't have barging!!

Once a day for about an hour, but I live in the country with fields (my family owns them) all around, so he runs freely and gets tonnes of exercise.

ourdog is walked 4-5 times a day, just because we get bored of all the cr*p that is on the TV nowadays, the dog is eating too much anyway (and we think its because he is bored) so we do our best to keep him active

We only have a communal garden so our collie gets several short toilet walks a day and one 2+ hour walk in the late afternoon with his 2 collie friends from round the corner (later in the summer)

I'm all wrapped up now ready to take him and the others out for their afternoon walk in the snow

I take mine or 4 times a day, depending on work but I have a sizeable garden that I throw balls and stuff around in for him

I love taking him out because of where I live, I can walk by the river, go up to the hills or just through the village, I do it more in the winter because there's less tourists about

We walk our 3 - 4 times per day, mind you it only around 20 mins per walk. Thats due to our oldie whos having some problems with his back legs. The young one would run and run all day but neither will go out without the other.

This is similar to me. My dogs are only on a lead for about 2mins. The rest of the time they are off the lead - so they dont walk, they run and chase rabbits (have a caught a few too !!!!). So, if i walk about 2miles, they must run about 6 i recon.

I just dont know how people find the time to walk their dogs soooo many times a day. I work, so i walk them in the mornings before work .... whilst hubby then dog sits for the day. I take them as i like the exercise myself. But even when im at home all day they would still just get one a day as i have jobs to do around the home.

It depends. Family members take him as well as I so I am lucky in that sense but he needs an awful lot of exercise!

First thing in the morning he gets around an hour and a half to two hours run, chasing rabbits and just being free!

If I have time he is taken about lunch time to the grass/field area by the house for a good run around and play ball Frisbee if not a family member takes him out and to their house for a few hours

Late evening we go for a walk through the village or down along the river for about 30 minutes.

He is never satisfied anyway, but I love our walks and seeing him running about. Keeps me fit too.

I take mine out for an hour or more in the morning, then she gets a half hour walk at night. Her breed are only meant to need a couple of twenty minute walks a day but she gets much more, and would keep going if we let her

Same for me too - They get exercised rather than walked for about 40 50 minutes on average.

Today they had extra as we went out for a run in the car so they had an extra frolic in the countryside.

I've often wondered how people find the time - or energy - to walk their dogs 4 or 5 times a day, but I suppose if they're small dogs and only need a stroll round the block its doable.

I have a Rottie and Dobie, and belive me , walking the Rottie on the street is like being towed along by a small horse - its exhausting. The best option is to drive them to an open space or a beach close by and left them run free. Once a day is more than enough then.

Lyuckily we have a big back garden too so they are pretty comfortable.

once a day.

letting it run in the garden by itself sorta counts for more i guess.
does the odd patrolling thing to get rid of pent up anger that the cats and squirrels have been violating his territory.

About an hour each day in the week & at weekends it's a couple of hours both days, i enjoy it more than him i think.

About 4 times a day. We're both retired so it's easy.

He asks out in the morning and my wife takes him out on his toilet walks about 15-20 min each

I take him out in the afternoon for his main walk.

After tea he only wants out for toilet breaks.

We don't have a garden so we have to walk him.

Mine is only a puppy (almost 5 months) and a toy breed so he doesn't need much exercise at this point. We go out once or twice a day.

Just got in from a few trips around the block, it is beyond freezing! Even the dog isn't fussed! Snow on the way I think!

I take our puppy out once a day and she gets taken out again at night by my dad...in between times she has our garden to go mad in. our other dog my dad takes out at night with the puppy as he's too strong for me,again he has the garden all day.May not seem enough but I think even if it's receommended x amount of time depending on the breed etc you know what's enough for your dog.

Every weekday morning at 5.30 - he is so unenthusiastic this time of year the great woos - then my Dad picks him up and has him all day out in the fields, then i take him out about half 8 at night and he's snoring his head off in front of the fire by 9. He's a 2 yr old Jack. He's on the go all weekend as i'm out and about around the farms
